As a Miami-based food writer with Cuban and Spanish roots, I know a thing or two about mixing flavors. Today, I bring you a taste of my own creation: Roasted Butternut Squash. This is a beloved staple in many a kitchen, and once you taste my version, you’ll understand why.
Creating Harmonies with a Recipe
Like the rhythm of a merengue dance or the flamenco’s fierce intensity, a great dish hinges on its balancing of elements. My roasted butternut squash delivers on this front spectacularly. The sweet honey and the warming spices create a symphony that is both comforting and vibrant. It’s a dance of flavors where every ingredient plays an essential role. That’s the kind of culinary choreography I live for.
A Fresh Take on a Vegetable Classic
Now, there’s no shortage of butternut squash recipes in the world, but this Roasted Butternut Squash has that extra something. This recipe is much like my traditional Spanish ‘calabaza asada’, but the hint of nutmeg makes it shine and brings me back to my mother’s kitchen. Don’t get me wrong, I love a good tomato risotto as much as the next person, but this dish just has that heartwarming edge that never fails to impress!
The Health Aspect
Aside from the bucketful of flavor it provides, roasted butternut squash is also a health superstar. It is a great source of fiber, vitamins, and minerals. Butternut squash is also low calorie, making it an excellent choice for those watching their waistline. The honey and the olive oil in this recipe both have excellent health benefits too. Honey is loaded with antioxidants, and olive oil is known to have numerous benefits for heart health. Simply put, this dish is a delicious way to nourish your body.
Whether you’re pairing it with a grilled trout and tropical fruit salsa or serving it as a satisfying meal on its own, this roasted butternut squash recipe will win over even the most sceptical of palates. Its delightful combination of sweet, savory, and spiced notes makes it a dish that should not be missed. It’s about time we all upgraded our veggie routine, don’t you think?
What You’ll Need
- 3 lbs of Butternut squash
- 2 tbsp of Olive oil
- 1/4 cup of Honey
- 1 tbsp of Ground cinnamon
- 1 tsp of Nutmeg
- 1/2 tsp of Salt
- 1/4 tsp of Black pepper
Method
Step One
Firstly, preheat your oven to 400 degrees F (200 degrees C). While the oven is heating, peel your butternut squash and cut into 1-inch cubes.
Step Two
Proceed by transferring the peeled and cubed butternut squash to a large mixing bowl. Drizzle the squash with olive oil and honey.
Step Three
Add the ground cinnamon, nutmeg, salt, and black pepper to the bowl.
Step Four
Using a spoon or your hands, toss everything until the squash is well coated with the oil, honey, and spices.
Step Five
Now transfer the squash to a baking sheet, spreading out the cubes in a single layer to ensure even cooking. Put the baking sheet in your preheated oven.
Step Six
Bake for about 25 to 30 minutes, or until the butternut squash is tender and lightly browned. Make sure to flip the cubes of squash halfway through baking.
Step Seven
Take the roasted squash out of the oven. Let it cool for a few minutes before serving. Enjoy your Roasted Butternut Squash!
