When the winter chill starts to fade and hints of summer can be felt in the breeze, there’s one dish that I always find myself craving: Spicy Sandia Pepper Guacamole. Growing up in Texas, my culinary journey was infused with an alluring mix of traditional Southern recipes, bold Tex-Mex flavors, and an ingrained appreciation for freshness and vibrancy in every bite. This recipe captures all of that and more.

Spicy Sandia Pepper Guacamole

A Twist on Tradition

Nothing says Tex-Mex more than guacamole. It’s a staple in every household, every Sunday BBQ, and every festive celebration. However, this Spicy Sandia Pepper Guacamole stands apart. Honoring tradition while daring to bend the rules, it introduces an unexpected yet delightfully refreshing element – watermelon. The sweetness of the watermelon (or, as we say in my Spanish-speaking home, sandia) beautifully balances the heat of the jalapeño and serrano peppers, while the earthiness of ripe avocados creates a velvety, rich base.

The Perfect Pairing

Just as it brings a contemporary spin to tradition, this guacamole pairs well with both classic and innovative dishes. Consider it a companion to beef tacos or a surprise topping for your grilled chicken. Alternatively, serve it alongside a platter of raw vegetables for a health-conscious yet satisfying snack. Spicy Sandia Pepper Guacamole not only tantalizes the taste buds but also opens up a world of culinary creativity.

Nurturing Good Health

As a grade school teacher, I’m not just committed to nourishing the minds of the little ones but also their bodies. That’s why I love that, in addition to being delicious, this Spicy Sandia Pepper Guacamole harnesses the power of nutrient-rich ingredients. Avocados are loaded with heart-healthy monounsaturated fats and fiber, while watermelon is an excellent source of hydration and vitamins A and C. The peppers and cilantro bring in a dose of beneficial antioxidants, and the lime juice provides a burst of energizing, immune-boosting vitamin C. Truly, this recipe is a testament to the fact that healthful eating can be utterly delectable.

To sum it up, it’s the beautiful marriage of traditional flavors and modern elements, that keeps me coming back to this Spicy Sandia Pepper Guacamole. It is a celebration of my Texan heritage, a reflection of my love for teaching, and an embodiment of my passion for healthy eating. I hope that you enjoy it as much as I do.”

What You’ll Need

  • 4 ripe avocados
  • 1 cup of diced watermelon (sandia)
  • 1 jalapeño pepper, finely chopped
  • 1 serrano pepper, finely chopped
  • 1 small red onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves of garlic, minced
  • Half a cup of chopped fresh cilantro
  • 1 lime, juiced
  • 1 teaspoon of salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon of black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon of cayenne pepper
ALLERGENS: Avocado, Garlic

Method

Step One

To begin, prepare all your ingredients to ensure you have everything ready. Dice your watermelon (sandia), finely chop your jalapeño pepper, serrano pepper, and red onion, mince your garlic cloves, chop your fresh cilantro, and juice your lime.

Step Two

Now, it’s time to prepare your avocados. Cut your ripe avocados in half and remove the pits. Scoop out the avocado flesh into a large bowl. Using a fork or a potato masher, mash up the avocados until it reaches the desired texture. Some people like a smooth guacamole, others like it chunkier – it’s up to your personal preference.

Step Three

Next, add your chopped watermelon, jalapeño pepper, serrano pepper, and red onion into the bowl with the mashed avocados. Toss the mixture gently with a big spoon until everything is well combined.

Step Four

After that, add your minced garlic, chopped fresh cilantro, and lime juice into the mixture. Gently stir until these ingredients are well distributed throughout the guacamole.

Step Five

Finally, season your guacamole with salt, black pepper, and cayenne pepper. Once again, stir gently until the spices are well incorporated. Taste your guacamole and adjust the seasoning if necessary.

Step Six

Now your Spicy Sandia Pepper Guacamole is ready to serve. You can enjoy it immediately, but for best flavor results, cover it and let it sit in the fridge for an hour or so before serving. This allows the flavors to meld together. Serve with tortilla chips and enjoy!
