The Uniqueness of This Dish

Even though Stir-Fried Broccoli with Garlic and Ginger isn’t a typical Southern recipe per se, I’ve come to appreciate the way this dish blends my love for fresh vegetables with a nod to Asian cuisine, all while maintaining that notable Ted-Mex vibrancy. It shares similarities with dishes such as stir fried vegetables or vegetable stir fry noodles, though the vibrant broccoli stands proudly as the centerpiece in this recipe.

This dish pairs delightfully well with a range of main courses, for instance, Slow-Cooker Pepper Steak, or can be enjoyed all on its own for those seeking a lighter, vegetable-based meal.

Health Benefits

The health benefits of this Stir-Fried Broccoli with Garlic and Ginger recipe are plentiful. Broccoli is well-known for its high vitamin C and dietary fiber content, along with being a good source of vitamin K. Broccoli and its fellow cruciferous vegetables also are associated with lower risks of developing cancer according to Harvard Health. Garlic is more than just a flavor booster; it’s also a superfood in its own right, boasting potential cardiovascular benefits. And let’s not overlook ginger, which is hailed for its anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects.

As someone who values health as much as style in cooking, this Stir-Fried Broccoli with Garlic and Ginger recipe brings together nutritious ingredients in an appealing and scrumptious presentation, while seamlessly blending with my Southern roots and the bold flavors of Texas. It gives a simple base for exploring other flavors, and with its innate versatility, it contributes beautifully towards a balanced diet that doesn’t compromise on taste.

What You’ll Need

  • 2 tablespoons canola oil
  • 1 tablespoon finely chopped fresh ginger
  • 2 cloves garlic, peeled and finely chopped
  • 1.5 pounds broccoli, cut into florets
  • 1/2 cup chicken stock
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 2 tablespoons water
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Sesame seeds for garnish (optional)
ALLERGENS: Soy, Sesame

Method

Step One

Heat the canola oil in a large, heavy-bottomed pan or wok over medium-high heat.

Step Two

Once the oil is hot, add the chopped ginger and garlic to the pan. Stir-fry for about 30 seconds until they are fragrant, but be careful not to let them burn.

Step Three

Add the broccoli florets to the pan and continue to stir-fry for about 3 minutes, until the broccoli is well-coated in oil and beginning to soften.

Step Four

Pour the chicken stock into the pan and bring it to a simmer. Turn down the heat to medium-low, cover the pan, and let the broccoli steam for about 5 minutes, until it’s bright green and tender but still crisp.

Step Five

In a small bowl, whisk together the soy sauce and cornstarch until well combined.

Step Six

Pour the soy sauce mixture and the water into the pan with the broccoli. Stir well to coat the broccoli in the sauce. Continue to cook for another 2 minutes, until the sauce has thickened.

Step Seven

Taste the broccoli and add salt and pepper as needed – remember, the soy sauce is already quite salty.

Step Eight

Transfer the broccoli to a serving dish, sprinkle it with sesame seeds if you’re using them, and serve hot. Enjoy this delicious Stir-Fried Broccoli with Garlic and Ginger!
