Stir-fried Land Cress with Garlic and Chili

A Fusion of Natural Flavor and Nutritious Greens

This Stir-fried Land Cress with Garlic and Chili takes inspiration from both my fondness for hearty, rustic meals and my interest in healthy, indigenous food traditions. Land cress, a leafy green similar to watercress, is a common element in Native American cuisine. It’s an excellent source of vitamins A, C, and K, along with heart-healthy omega-3 fa
tty acids. Similar to the bison burgers and venison dishes I’ve perfected over the years, this recipe remains faithful to the cornerstone of my cooking philosophy — flavorful, wholesome food that fuels and nourishes.

While this dish can stand proudly on its own, it would also complement more robust meals. Think of it served alongside a hearty buffalo burger or a succulent venison steak. The garlic and chili kick pairs wonderfully with the rich complex flavors of bison or venison, making it a versatile side dish or a light standalone option for those seeking something a tad healthier.

A Rich Tapestry of Flavors in Every Bite

Every ingredient in the Stir-fried Land Cress with Garlic and Chili contributes to its unique taste. The aromatic value of the garlic and the stimulating warmth of the chili create an incredible backdrop for the peppery, slightly bitter flavor of the land cress, which is softened by a touch of sugar and soy sauce. This combination is cooked in vegetable oil, allowing all the flavors to meld together in one delightful gastronomic harmony.

I believe food should be an adventure, a savored journey that resonates with personal history and the rich tapestry of one’s cultural heritage. This recipe embodies that philosophy. Whether you’re pairing it with a plate of huckleberry pie or simply enjoying it with a hunk of good, crusty bread, Stir-fried Land Cress with Garlic and Chili promises to deliver a delicious expedition into the heart of wholesome, flavorful cooking. Dive into this recipe and experience the joy of food that I’ve come to know and love.

What You’ll Need

  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 2 large garlic cloves, finely minced
  • 1-2 red chilies, finely chopped
  • 1 bunch of land cress, roughly chopped
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
ALLERGENS: Garlic, Soy

Method

Step One

Heat the vegetable oil in a large pan or wok over medium heat. Once the oil is hot, add the finely minced garlic and chopped red chilies. Sauté them for a few minutes until they start giving out a fragrant aroma.

Step Two

Add the chopped land cress to the pan. Stir fry it with the garlic and chilies, making sure that all the cress touches the hot pan. Cook it for 2 to 3 minutes, or until the cress starts to wilt.

Step Three

In a small bowl, combine the soy sauce, sugar, black pepper, and salt. Mix them well to ensure the sugar completely dissolves.

Step Four

Pour this soy sauce mixture over the stir-fried land cress. Toss everything together to make sure that the cress is evenly coated with the sauce.

Step Five

Continue stir-frying for another 2 to 3 minutes. Ensure that everything is well mixed and heated through.

Step Six

Remove the pan from the heat. You can serve your Stir-fried Land Cress with Garlic and Chili immediately as a hot and flavorful side dish.
