From Creole Richness to Asian Flavours
The wonders of food culture lie within its vast variety. As a Louisianian with French roots, my passion for food leans towards the Creole and French cuisine. However, one of my all-time favorites does not find its origins in either, but in the vast, flavor-rich world of Asian cuisine. The Stir Fried Winged Beans with Garlic recipie, a little-known but delicious vegetable-based dish, is a tribute to this.
Nutritional Punch and Flavour Aplenty
This recipe does more than add a delightful splash of colour to your plate. Packed full of vitamins and minerals, the winged beans (scientifically known as Psophocarpus tetragonolobus) used in this stir-fry are a highly nutritious vegetable. High in proteins and fiber, they give your body a well-needed boost while also ensuring you remain satiated for longer periods. It’s a perfect blend of health and taste when combined with the vibrant flavors of garlic, onion, red bell pepper, and a hint of spicy red chili.
Perfect Partner for your Main Course
Looking for a mouth-watering side to complement your main dish? Look no further. The Stir Fried Winged Beans with Garlic recipe goes hand in hand with a variety of main dishes. Pair it with a steaming bowl of jasmine rice, or if you’re in the mood for some protein, a juicy grilled chicken breast works wonders. Also, consider giving it a try with Chilled Ramen with Soy Milk and Chili Oil, an Asian dish I’ve fallen in love with in my culinary journeys. Regardless of your choice, this stir-fry will add a delectable flair like none other.
Easy Preparation, Lasting Impression
Whether you’re a professional chef or a home cook, the simplicity of this recipe is truly appealing. The garlicky flavor playing off the crunchiness of the quickly stir-fried winged beans, bell peppers, and onions, all bound together with a lightly thickened sauce – something that’s easily achieved with common pantry ingredients – turns a seemingly humble dish into a culinary masterpiece.
So what are you waiting for? Break the monotony of your regular dishes with this delightful, health-packed Stir Fried Winged Beans with Garlic recipe. Every bite is sure to transport you on a flavorful journey to the heart of Asian cuisine.
What You’ll Need
- 1 lb winged beans, sliced
- 6 cloves garlic, finely chopped
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
- Salt to taste
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon oyster sauce
- 1/2 cup sliced red bell pepper
- 1/2 cup sliced onion
- 1 red chili, sliced (optional)
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch dissolved in 2 tablespoons water
Method
Step One
Start by preparing all your ingredients. Slice your winged beans, red bell pepper, onion and chili (if using). Finely chop your garlic cloves. Dissolve your cornstarch in water and set aside.
Step Two
Heat your vegetable oil in a large wok or frying pan over medium heat. Once the oil is hot, add the finely chopped garlic. Stir constantly until the garlic becomes fragrant.
Step Three
Next, add the sliced winged beans to the pan. Stir fry for a couple of minutes until they start to soften. You want them to still have a bit of crunch.
Step Four
Add in the sliced red bell pepper, onion and optional chili. Stir well and cook until the vegetables are just starting to soften. Add salt to taste.
Step Five
Pour in the soy sauce, oyster sauce, and sugar. Mix well to ensure all the vegetables are coated in the sauces. Let the mix cook for another 2-3 minutes.
Step Six
Finally, pour the cornstarch water into the pan. Stir quickly as the sauce will thicken very quickly. Cook until the sauce is at your desired consistency.
Step Seven
Taste and adjust the seasoning as necessary, adding more salt or soy sauce if needed. Serve your stir fried winged beans with garlic hot and enjoy!
