As a Southern belle, my culinary journey has always been rooted in tradition. From biscuits to fried chicken, every dish carries a story, a slice of home. One of my favourite personal spins on a classic recipe is the Vanilla Almond Milk Smoothie. It may not have the deep-fried credentials of some Southern staples, but I assure you, it is just as satisfying.
Health in a Glass
This Vanilla Almond Milk Smoothie is an indulgence you can enjoy without guilt. Packed with fruits and enriched with Greek yogurt, it is a powerhouse of fiber, proteins, vitamins and minerals. Starting your day with this smoothie may support digestion, boost immunity, and contribute to weight management. It’s an all-rounder recipe that combines good taste with good health – a rare commodity these days!
The transportive Flavor
When it comes to flavor, this smoothie takes you on a journey. Every sip, rich and creamy, is evocative the beaches of Charleston, harking back to the fruits and nuts sold fresh off the boats on our harbors. It tastes as good as it looks and feels—and that’s saying a lot.
The honey and banana intermingle seamlessly, providing a natural sweetness that’s perfectly balanced. Vanilla rounds off the taste, a familiar comfort against the excitement of the fruits. And while it makes for a fantastic breakfast, don’t let meal times confine you—you can enjoy it as a midday lift or a post-workout boost too.
Bridging Recipes
You could pair this smoothie with wholesome meals like granola bowls, scrambled eggs or a piece of buttered toast for breakfast. If you’re going to combine it with a Southern classic, consider an open-faced Tomato Sandwich or a fluffy stack of Buttermilk Pancakes. The smoothie adds a refreshing, fruity note to the meal, and the delightful contrast will have your taste buds dancing.
In essence, the Vanilla Almond Milk Smoothie is reminiscent of my love for surf and sun, of the coastal flavors that make Charleston so special. It’s a taste of Southern comfort in a glass, refreshing, nutritious and above all—delicious! For those who seek to embrace a healthier lifestyle without letting go of flavor, this recipe is a must-try. And as we say down South, ‘Y’all gonna love it!’

- 2 large ripe Bananas
- 3 cups Unsweetened Almond Milk
- 1 1/2 tablespoons Honey
- 2 teaspoons Pure Vanilla Extract
- 1/2 cup Greek Yogurt
- 6 Ice Cubes
Method
Step One
Start by peeling and slicing the ripe bananas. Place the banana slices in a blender, followed by the frozen mixed fruit.
Step Two
Pour the unsweetened almond milk into the blender. Be careful not to spill any.
Step Three
Add 1 1/2 tablespoons of honey to the blender. Following this, add 2 teaspoons of pure vanilla extract for a sweet and aromatic flavor.
Step Four
Add the Greek yogurt to the blender. This will give your smoothie a satisfyingly creamy texture.
Step Five
Drop in the six ice cubes. If you want a chilled smoothie, make sure the ice cubes are big enough.
Step Six
Now, blend everything together until it reaches a nice, smooth consistency. Ensure all ingredients are well combined and that there are no chunks of fruit or ice left.
