Why I Love American Vegan Cheesesteak

As a culinary enthusiast with a palette rooted in West Coast health-consciousness and an appreciation for classic American comfort food, I’m always on the lookout for fusions that capture the essence of both worlds. The Vegan Cheesesteak, one such comforting delicacy which features a delightful blend of spices and wholesome ingredients, holds a special place in my heart and in my kitchen.

Vegan Cheesesteak

Guiltlessly Satisfying

What makes this Vegan Cheesesteak truly remarkable is how it marries wholesomeness with palatable indulgence. Brought to life in a melange of fresh, nutritious ingredients like thinly sliced onions and bell peppers, minced garlic and savory seitan, it’s a testament to the fact that flavorful extravagance does not necessarily need to compromise on health.

Inspiration for Wholehearted Kitchens

Having been deeply inspired by the creative genius of Chef Chloe Coscarelli, a forefront vegan chef who effortlessly promotes the robust flavors of plant-based cooking, I found an inclination towards recreating American classics with a vegan, wholesome twist. Just like her, through the Vegan Cheesesteak recipe, I aim to add a dash of nutritious wholesomeness to comfort food.

Alongside our delectable Vegan Cheesesteak, consider serving a fresh Arugula Salad with Parmesan to create a meal ensemble that speaks to the charm of casual American dinners. Alternately, a side of Crispy Smashed Potatoes will supply a complementary crunch factor, enhancing the overall meal experience.

Share the Love

Preparing the Vegan Cheesesteak has always been a heartening activity in my kitchen. It echoes my culinary journey, my inspirations, and my love for creating something wholesome and comforting from scratch. It’s a joy I hope to share with countless others through this recipe.

What You’ll Need

  • 6 vegan hoagie rolls
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 2 large onions, thinly sliced
  • 2 bell peppers, thinly sliced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 pound seitan, thinly sliced
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup vegetable broth
  • 6 slices vegan provolone cheese
ALLERGENS: Wheat, Soy

Method

Step One

Begin by preheating your oven to 350 degrees.

Step Two

In a large frying pan, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Once the oil is hot, add the thinly sliced onions, bell peppers, and minced garlic. Cook them until they are soft and slightly caramelized, usually about 10-15 minutes.

Step Three

Add the thinly sliced seitan to your pan, and cook it until it turns brown. This usually takes about 5 minutes.

Step Four

Next, stir in the soy sauce, black pepper, salt, and flour into the pan, mixing everything together well to ensure it is evenly coated.

Step Five

Slowly pour the vegetable broth into your pan, and continuously stir the mixture as you bring it to a simmer. Allow it to cook for about 2-3 minutes, or until the mixture has thickened slightly.

Step Six

Now, divide the seitan mixture evenly among your six vegan hoagie rolls. Top each with a slice of vegan provolone cheese.

Step Seven

Place the filled rolls on a baking sheet and then into your preheated oven. Bake them for about 10 minutes, or until the cheese has melted and the rolls are golden brown.

Step Eight

Finally, remove the vegan cheesesteaks from the oven and let them cool for a few minutes before serving. Enjoy!
