As the sun sets over the golden California valleys, a cozy warmth fills my kitchen spurred by the familiar aroma of a simmering West Coast favorite – my delectable White Cinnamon and Pear Crumble. In a reflection of my love for comfort food ingeniously married with a health-savvy responsiveness, this dessert shines as a true embodiment of my culinary ethos.
Health and Happiness in Every Bite
What makes the White Cinnamon and Pear Crumble so special is its nod to both indulgence and nourishment. Each ingredient selected for this recipe offers not just mouthwatering taste and texture, but a host of health benefits too. Pears, for instance, are a natural source of antioxidants, loaded with dietary fiber which aids in digestion. It doesn’t stop there – let’s not forget the vitamin C boost they provide.
Moreover, walnuts add another layer of intrigue to the recipe as well as healthful perks. Consider the notable Omega-3 fatty acids and antioxidants in these crunchy gems, both paramount for heart and brain health.
A Culinary Balance
Despite its sweet facade, this crumble maintains a thoughtful balance. Reminiscent of warm apple pies and nostalgic cinnamon buns, it nods towards perennial family favorites while introducing an element of West Coast uniqueness with the inclusion of lemon juice and pears. The depth of flavor weaves a delicate palate-pleasing narrative while keeping sugar levels on a leash.
The White Cinnamon and Pear Crumble stands beautifully on its own as a heart-warming dessert. However, if you’re looking to create a mesmerizing culinary symphony, consider coupling it with a simple yet elegant French vanilla ice cream. The creaminess of the ice cream pairs seamlessly with the crumble’s warm and inviting textures.
Few recipes embrace the quintessential beauty of West Coast fare as gracefully as this one- healthful, comforting and delightfully unforgettable in every spoonful. With three little ones at the table, the task of creating recipes that emblaze these traits formulated my culinary journey. In my White Cinnamon and Pear Crumble, the goal is achieved, while leaving room for a slice of American comfort.
What You’ll Need
- 1.5 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup granulated sugar, divided
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
- 1/2 cup old-fashioned oats
- 1/2 cup chopped walnuts
- 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 4 cups peeled and sliced fresh pears
- 2 tablespoons cornstarch
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 1 tablespoon white sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
Method
Step One
Preheat your oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C). In a large bowl, combine the all-purpose flour and 3/4 cup of the granulated sugar.
Step Two
With the butter cold and cubed, add it to the flour and sugar mixture. Using your hands or a pastry cutter, work the butter into the flour until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Then, stir in the old-fashioned oats, chopped walnuts, baking powder, 1/2 teaspoon of the ground cinnamon, and salt.
Step Three
In a separate bowl, combine the peeled and sliced pears with the remaining 1/4 cup granulated sugar, cornstarch, lemon juice, and vanilla extract. Mix well, making sure all the pears are coated.
Step Four
Pour the pear mixture into a baking dish. Sprinkle the crumble mixture evenly over the top of the pears.
Step Five
Bake in the preheated oven for about 45 minutes, or until the crumble is golden and the pears are tender. Let the crumble cool for a few minutes before sprinkling it with the remaining white sugar and ground cinnamon.
Step Six
Serve the White Cinnamon and Pear Crumble warm. Enjoy delicious dessert!
