What You’ll Need

  • 1 Packet (2 1/4 Teaspoons) of active dry yeast
  • 1 Tablespoon of Sugar
  • 1 1/2 Cups of warm water
  • 1 Teaspoon of Salt
  • 2 Tablespoons of melted butter
  • 2 Cups of whole wheat flour
  • 1 Cup of bread flour
  • 1/2 Cup of oats
  • Cooking Spray for greasing
ALLERGENS: Yeast, Wheat, Gluten, Dairy

Method

Step One

First, dissolve the yeast and sugar in warm water. Make sure to stir until the mixture appears frothy. This usually takes about 10 minutes.

Step Two

Next, add the salt and melted butter to the yeast mixture. Stir it well until all the ingredients are thoroughly combined.

Step Three

In a separate bowl, mix together the whole wheat flour, bread flour, and oats. Once mixed, slowly add this to the yeast mixture, stirring constantly to ensure all ingredients combine smoothly.

Step Four

After all the ingredients have been added, knead the dough on a floured surface for about 10 minutes or until it becomes elastic and smooth.

Step Five

Coat a large bowl with cooking spray and place the dough in the bowl, rolling it around so that all sides are greased. This will prevent the dough from sticking to the bowl as it rises. Cover the bowl with a clean cloth and leave it in a warm place to rise for about 1 hour or until it has doubled in size.

Step Six

Punch down the risen dough and knead it briefly before shaping it into a loaf. Transfer the dough loaf to a greased baking tin. Cover it again with a clean cloth and leave it to rise for another half an hour.

Step Seven

Preheat your oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit (190 degrees Celsius). Bake the risen loaf for about 30 minutes in the preheated oven, or until the top turns golden brown.

Step Eight

Allow the bread to cool in the tin for 10 minutes, then remove it from the tin and let it cool completely on a wire rack.
