Every now and then, I find a recipe that breaks away from my traditional chic mountain comfort food. The Annona Squamosas Smoothie brightens up my day like a sunny morning hike in the Rockies. Its fruity tang conjures up memories of sunshine-dappled picnics by a babbling brook, both enjoyable and health-conscious. This smoothie, bursting with vibrant flavors, isn’t a typical recipe for me but it perfectly complements my belief in soulful, wholesome nutrition.
What Sets Annona Squamosas Smoothie Apart
Affectionately known as sugar apple, the Annona squamosa contributes a uniquely tropical note to this smoothie recipe. Its sweet, slightly custardy flavor, paired with the luscious citrus burst of fresh orange juice and the tropical allure of ripe bananas, elevates this concoction beyond the typical smoothie. The creaminess is further enhanced by almond milk and Greek yogurt, while a hint of honey lends an additional layer of natural sweetness.
You might find the Annona Squamosas Smoothie a refreshing divergence if you’re a fan of classic strawberry banana smoothies, or if you love the tropical vibes of a pineapple-coconut shake. Merrily balancing between a fruit juice and a smoothie, this recipe could be paired with virtually anything. But for optimal pleasure, I’d recommend enjoying it with a light and zesty quinoa salad or a plate of oven-roasted salmon for a truly wholesome meal.

- 2 ripe bananas
- 1 cup of fresh pineapple chunks
- 1 cup of unsweetened Greek yogurt
- 1 tablespoon of honey
- 6-8 ice cubes
- 1 tablespoon of chia seeds (optional)
Method
Step One
Start by preparing your 3 ripe Annona Squamosas (sugar apples). Cut each Annona squamosa in half and scoop out the flesh with a spoon. Discard the seeds and peel.
Step Two
Peel and slice your 2 ripe bananas. Also, cut your fresh pineapple into chunks until you have 1 cup of pineapple pieces.
Step Three
Take a large blender and add the Annona squamosas flesh, sliced bananas, and pineapple chunks to it. Pour in the 2 cups of fresh orange juice, and 1 cup of almond milk.
Step Four
Add the 1 cup of unsweetened Greek yogurt into the blender. To add a touch of sweetness and flavor, also include 1 tablespoon of honey.
Step Five
For a cool and refreshing drink, add in 6-8 ice cubes.
Step Six
Blend all the ingredients until the mixture becomes smooth and creamy. If the smoothie is too thick, feel free to add some more orange juice or almond milk.
