Why I Love Indian Creamy Meatball Curry
My love for cooking has seen me exploring different cuisines and recipes, but the dish that stands head and shoulders above many is the Indian Creamy Meatball Curry. This aromatic and spicy concoction of flavors blends brilliantly with the succulent and juicy meatballs, making each spoonful an experience to remember.
The Fusion of Flavors
Sure, my heart and soul are with New England seafood, but the world of cuisine is vast and wonderous. Dishes like this Creamy Meatball Curry allow me to venture beyond the familiar and add an exciting dash of diversity to our family dinner table. My daughters, Erin and Samantha, have inherited my love for culinary adventures. So, when I brought in the aromatic spices and tantalizing flavors of this Creamy Meatball Curry, it was an instant hit!
This recipe shares some common elements with other familiar dishes. It’s quite akin to Swedish meatballs, albeit with a spicy Indian twist. The robust curry, paired with the subtle sweetness of coconut milk, opens up a new flavor profile that is immensely fascinating. I highly recommend serving this curry with basmati rice pulao or warm grilled naan.
Starting A Flavor Journey
Finding inspiration isn’t always easy, but sometimes an outstanding chef can pave the way. This recipe was somewhat inspired by a Masterclass by Gordon Ramsay. While his approach is vastly different, the importance he places on quality ingredients and methodical preparation resounds in this dish.
To elevate the Creamy Meatball Curry, I incorporated organic free-range ground beef, as well as freshly ground spices for the curry. This brought out more depth and richness to the dish, filling our dining room with such a delightful aroma that even my seafood-loving Portland relatives were drawn in.
Remember, cooking isn’t just about following a set of instructions. It’s a journey, an exploration, and an experience. Be adventurous, taste as you go, and feel free to make the recipe your own. And when you’ve tried it and loved it – as I believe you will – don’t forget to share this gem of a recipe with others. Let them, too, fall in love with the beauty of this delicious Indian Creamy Meatball Curry.
What You’ll Need
- 2 lbs of ground beef
- 1 medium onion, finely chopped
- 4 cloves of garlic, minced
- 2 inch piece of ginger, grated
- 1 cup of bread crumbs
- 2 eggs
- 2 tablespoons of ghee (Indian clarified butter)
- 2 tablespoons of curry powder
- 1 teaspoon of turmeric powder
- 1 teaspoon of cumin seeds
- 1 teaspoon of red chili powder
- 1 teaspoon of salt
- 1/2 teaspoon of ground black pepper
- 1 can (14 oz) of coconut milk
- 1 cup of plain yogurt
- 2 tablespoons of fresh cilantro, chopped
- 2 tablespoons of fresh mint, chopped
Method
Step One
To start off this recipe, begin by mixing the ground beef, finely chopped onion, minced garlic, grated ginger, breadcrumbs, eggs, 1 tablespoon curry power, salt, black pepper and half the amount of cumin seeds in a large bowl. Ensure all the ingredients are mixed well.
Step Two
Start forming the mixture into round meatballs, roughly an inch in size. Set these meatballs aside on a separate plate while we prepare the curry sauce.
Step Three
In a large saucepan heat the ghee over medium heat. To this, add the remaining cumin seeds and let them sizzle a little to release their flavor. Afterwards, add the remaining tablespoon of curry powder, turmeric powder and red chili powder. Stir everything well.
Step Four
Now pour in the can of coconut milk and bring the mixture to a boil. Once it’s boiling, reduce the heat to low and stir in the plain yogurt.
Step Five
After the curry sauce has simmered for a few minutes, place the meatballs into the curry sauce. Cover the saucepan and let everything simmer for about 15-20 minutes, or until the mealtballs are cooked through.
Step Six
Before serving, garnish the creamy meatball curry with chopped fresh cilantro and mint. This Creamy Meatball Curry pairs well with steamed rice or naan bread.
Enjoy your homemade Creamy Meatball Curry!
