Let’s transport our taste buds to a tropical paradise with a vibrant dish that fuses two exotic fruits – dragonfruit and mango. Please lend me your attention as we traverse this delightful culinary journey with our Dragonfruit and Mango Sorbet. A departure from my native seafood dishes, but you’ll find this fruit sorbet holds the same refreshing properties as a cool Atlantic breeze.
A Nod to the Tropics
As many of you will know, by heart, I am a New England seafood lover. However, taste buds love variety and occasionally, we need to take a detour from familiar territories. The Dragonfruit and Mango Sorbet is one such detour, an exotic fruit escape that satiates the palate in the most delightful way. This recipe is a cousin to traditional sorbets often made with citrus fruits, berries, or even shaved ice-like treats.
A Healthy Handful
This sorbet not only offers a refreshing dessert option for summer but also brings with it a slew of health benefits. The dragonfruit and mango serve up a hefty dose of Vitamin C, acting as powerful antioxidants, whilst the fiber content aids digestion. The natural sugars, balanced with a touch of lemon, provide an energy boost and sweetness without any artificial elements. It’s a sweet treat my daughters, Erin and Samantha, get excited about without mom worrying about a sugar overload!
I might suggest serving this delectable Dragonfruit and Mango Sorbet after a spicy meal, such as a rich coconut curry or jerk chicken barbecue. The cooling, tropical taste helps cleanse the palate and settles any heat from the food. Of course, it works beautifully, too, as a standalone palette cleanser between tasting different dishes.
So why not put on your culinary adventurer hat and whip up this exotic Dragonfruit and Mango Sorbet? With its vibrant colors, tropical palate, and healthful perks, every scoop is a perfect treat, any time of the day.
What You’ll Need
- 2 cups of dragonfruit, pureed
- 1 cup of ripe mango, pureed
- 1 cup of white sugar
- 1 tablespoon of lemon juice
- 1 cup of water
- 2 tablespoons of light corn syrup
Method
Step One
First, start by pureeing the dragonfruit and ripe mango in a blender or food processor until smooth. Ensure that there are no chunks left behind. Set this aside for later.
Step Two
In a large saucepan over medium heat, combine the white sugar and water. Stir this until the sugar has fully dissolved. This will create a simple syrup.
Step Three
Once the sugar has dissolved, add the light corn syrup to the saucepan. Continue to stir the mixture over medium heat until the syrup is fully incorporated and the mixture has a smooth consistency.
Step Four
Remove the saucepan from the heat and allow it to cool for a bit. Once cooled, add the pureed dragonfruit and mango to the saucepan. Stir everything together until it’s well combined.
Step Five
Add the lemon juice to the mixture and give it a good stir. The lemon juice will help to preserve the color of the fruit and add a tangy note to the sorbet.
Step Six
Once everything is well mixed, pour the mixture into an ice cream maker and churn according to the manufacturer’s instructions. If you do not have an ice cream maker, you can also pour the mixture into a shallow dish and freeze it, stirring every half hour, until it reaches the desired consistency.
Step Seven
Your Dragonfruit and Mango Sorbet is ready! Scoop it into bowls and serve immediately, or store it in an airtight container in the freezer until you’re ready to enjoy it. Perfect for a hot summer’s day or as a refreshing dessert!
