There’s something transcendent about a good jam. Just reflective enough of its origin fruit but transformed into something new, something more substantial. It’s a balance that’s as delicate as it’s delicious. I’ve tried many jam recipes, but one that I continually return to due to its unexpected burst of flavor is the Sapote and Raspberry Jam.

Sapote and Raspberry Jam

The Magic of Flavor Fusion

This recipe artfully merges the tropical, custard-like sapote with the familiar, tangy sweetness of raspberries. A marriage of flavors that, much like my own blends of rancher foods with Native American traditions, makes you rethink the possibilities of what a single dish can be.

Nutritional Bonanza

As delicious as it is, the Sapote and Raspberry Jam is equally beneficial for health. Sapote is an excellent source of vitamins A and C, and fused with raspberry, known for its antioxidative properties, this jam becomes a powerhouse of nutrition. The addition of lemon juice not only helps to preserve color but supplements vitamin C intake.

Whether you’re spreading it on toast, swirling it into your morning oatmeal, or just enjoying it straight off the spoon, the Sapote and Raspberry Jam can elevate any culinary experience. It’s somewhat akin to marmalade with its complex, layered taste, yet it retains its own unique signature.

A Versatile Pairing Partner

This jam doesn’t discriminate. Whether you pair it with a freshly baked scone, a charcuterie board, or even a bison burger, Sapote and Raspberry Jam complements any dish. A diversity that resonates with my cooking style, drawing influences from rancher favorites and native influences.

Inspired as I am for incorporating new, unique flavors, this Sapote and Raspberry Jam blends familiarity with novelty. It’s remarkably simple to prepare, yet the end result is so gratifying. The jam captures the essence of sapote and the kick of raspberries, creating a blend that is sure to make breakfast your favorite meal of the day.

And for the adventurous souls, this jam opens up a world of culinary experimentation. From creating marinades to glazes or fillings, the possibilities are endless. If cooking is a journey, then this versatile jam is certainly one of the most vibrant expeditions to undertake.

What You’ll Need

  • 4 cups Sapote fruit, peeled, deseeded and chopped
  • 2 cups raspberries
  • 3 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 cup water
  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice
  • 1 packet (1.75 oz) fruit pectin
ALLERGENS:

Method

Step One

Prepare the sapote fruit by peeling, de-seeding, and chopping until you have 4 cups’ worth. Also, measure out your 2 cups of raspberries. Set these aside for later use.

Step Two

Combine your prepared sapote fruit, raspberries, and 1 cup of water in a large saucepan. Cook over medium heat for about 15 minutes or until the fruit is soft, stirring often to prevent burning.

Step Three

Add the 3 cups of granulated sugar into the saucepan with the softened fruit and stir until the sugar is completely dissolved.

Step Four

Stir in the 2 tablespoons of lemon juice and the packet of fruit pectin into the saucepan. Bring the mixture to a boil over high heat, stirring constantly.

Step Five

Once the mixture has reached a full rolling boil, allow it to boil for one minute, still stirring constantly. Then, remove the saucepan from the heat.

Step Six

Let the jam cool for a few minutes and then ladle it into sterile jars. Leave around 1/4 inch of headspace in each jar, and then seal them.

Step Seven

Process the filled jars in a water bath for 10 minutes to ensure they’re sealed and preserved. Finally, allow the jars to cool before storing them in a cool, dark place.
