Blood Orange Glazed Salmon

The Perfect Union of Flavours

I’ve always been a fan of marrying flavors in innovative ways. As someone who’s a master of biscuits and fried chicken, it’s not uncommon to find me experimenting with unusual combinations. This salmon recipe, glazed in tantalizing blood orange juice mixed with honey, soy sauce, fresh ginger, and garlic, is a testament to that spirit of culinary creativity.

It’s somewhat similar to the classic Asian Orange Chicken, given its tangy citrus glaze. Pair this hearty main dish with a light side of wilted garlic greens or a quinoa salad for a balanced, wholesome meal.

Health Benefits Galore

As much as I love treating my palate, I’m equally invested in nurturing my health and wellbeing. This is another reason why the Blood Orange Glazed Salmon stands as one of my favorite dishes. The salmon is rich in proteins and Omega-3 fatty acids contributing to heart health, brain functions and reducing inflammation. Complementing this nutritional powerhouse, blood oranges introduce an injection of vitamin C and other vital antioxidants that assist in combating harmful free radicals, fortifying the immune system, and rejuvenating the skin.

So here’s a dish that’s not only a treat to your taste buds but also a boon to your health.

Preparing this recipe is a venture into the distinctive spirit of cuisine I’m fond of, combining the familiar with the exotic, the rich southern traditions with flavors of various world cuisines. Trust me, once you’ve savored this Blood Orange Glazed Salmon, your palette will thank you, and this dish will soon become a staple in your kitchen as it has in mine.

Till we cook together again, enjoy the soulful cooking journey!

What You’ll Need

  • 6 salmon fillets
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 cup freshly-squeezed blood orange juice
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon minced fresh ginger
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 2 tablespoons cold water
  • 1 tablespoon blood orange zest
  • Freshly chopped parsley for garnish
  • Thinly sliced blood oranges for garnish
ALLERGENS: Fish (salmon), Soy

Method

Step One

Season the salmon fillets evenly with salt and pepper.

Step Two

Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Once the oil is hot, add the salmon fillets, skin side down, and cook for 4-5 minutes on each side or until the fish flakes easily with a fork. Transfer the salmon to a plate and set it aside.

Step Three

In the same skillet, add the blood orange juice, honey, soy sauce, minced ginger, and minced garlic. Bring the mixture to a boil over medium heat.

Step Four

In a small bowl, combine the cornstarch with the cold water to create a slurry. Slowly whisk this into the simmering skillet, stirring continuously until the glaze has thickened to your liking.

Step Five

Return the salmon fillets to the pan and spoon the glaze over the fish. Allow the salmon to simmer in the glaze for an additional 2-3 minutes.

Step Six

Remove the pan from the heat and sprinkle the salmon with the blood orange zest. Garnish with freshly chopped parsley and thinly sliced blood oranges before serving.
