This delightful cocktail is not only refreshing, but strikingly beautiful, blending the unique flavors of Ugli fruit with a classic drink’s vibrant citrus spark. The rich history and global influences present in this ideal patio-sipper make it a favorite of mine, inspired by my Creole roots and French lineage.
The Unique Flavors of Ugli Fruit Mojito
If you’ve never tried Ugli fruit before, this cocktail is the perfect introduction. Its name might imply something less than appealing, but the Ugli fruit is truly a hidden treasure, known for its unique taste and nutritional benefits. Blended with white rum and fresh lime juice, the Ugli fruit’s fragrant zestiness shines, complemented by a slightly sweet undercurrent from the inclusion of simple syrup.
Adding the cool notes of fresh mint, commonly found in a classic Mojito, takes this drink from delicious to absolutely divine. Of course, for all its taste and style, remember this drink contains rum, so sip responsibly!
A perfect harmony with food
And let’s not forget food. After all, what’s a good drink without some fantastic food by its side? The Ugli Fruit Mojito, with its lively, citrusy profile pairs excellently with a variety of dishes. Think of those vibrant Creole staples, like blackened fish or spicy jambalaya, or even more traditional French fare, like a rich Quiche Lorraine or delicate Escargots de Bourgogne. This mojito recipe even works wonderfully with a variety of desserts, matching the sweetness with its own spirited tang.
The Ugli Fruit Mojito also serves as a beautiful, refreshing alternative for those who love cocktails like the classic Mojito or a Dark & Stormy. Its unique fruit base sets it apart, making it both a taste sensation and a conversation starter at your next summer gathering.

What You’ll Need
- 1.5 cups of white rum
- 1 cup of fresh lime juice
- 3/4 cup of simple syrup
- 9 Ugli fruits, peeled and divided into segments
- 1 bunch of fresh mint, about 1.5 cups loosely packed
- Club soda
- Ice cubes
- Lime slices and additional Ugli fruit segments for garnish
Method
Step One
Begin by peeling your Ugli fruits and dividing them into segments. You should have around 9 to use in this recipe. Set aside some additional segments for garnishing later on.
Step Two
Take your bunch of mint and loosely pack until you have about 1.5 cups. Make sure to wash and pat dry the mint before using.
Step Three
In a large pitcher, combine the segments of Ugli fruit, mint, and 1 cup of fresh lime juice. Use a muddler or the back of a wooden spoon to crush the fruit and mint leaves together. This will help to extract the flavors and blend them together.
Step Four
Add 1.5 cups of white rum and 3/4 cup of simple syrup into the pitcher. Stir well to combine all the ingredients.
Step Five
Fill glasses with ice cubes, then pour your mojito mixture over the ice. Top each glass with club soda to give your mojito a fizzy finish.
Step Six
Garnish each glass with a slice of lime and a segment of Ugli fruit. Your Ugli Fruit Mojitos are now ready to serve and enjoy!
