Hungarian Paprika Chicken

The Magic of Fusion

The Hungarian Paprika Chicken is a true testament to my love for Indian-American fusion dishes. I’ve always found immense joy in merging the best of both my cultures, and this recipe is no exception. With flavors reminiscent of traditional Indian curries and a vibrant fruit accent that is quintessentially Californian, this dish truly bridges two worlds. It is akin to traditional Hungarian paprika pot but its unique combination of ingredients sets it apart.

The Healthful Impact

Cooking is not just about taste for me. It’s about creating dishes that nourish the body and soul. This recipe beautifully aligns with that philosophy. It’s packed with lean proteins from chicken, a bounty of vitamins from fresh bell pepper and apples, and heart-friendly olive oil. The star ingredient, Hungarian paprika, carries a hefty dose of Capsaicin, an ant-inflammatory compound that naturally boosts metabolism. With each bite of this vibrant dish, you’re doing your body a favor!

One of the great things about this recipe is its flexibility. It pairs perfectly with everything from fluffy basmati rice to a fresh salad on the side, allowing you to balance your meal as per your dietary needs and preferences.

A Family Affair

Finally, the Hungarian Paprika Chicken has a special place in my family’s heart. My husband, Faisal, is particularly fond of its robust flavors and our sons enjoy the accompanying fruit side. The communal experience of sitting down together, tucking into a wholesome, home-cooked meal, exchanging anecdotes from the day – that’s just priceless in my book. And honestly, it’s moments like these that truly evoke my love for cooking.

So, whether you’re an experienced home cook or looking for delicious new recipes to add to your repertoire, the Hungarian Paprika Chicken is a dish well worth your time. Enjoy!

What You’ll Need

  • 3 pounds boneless chicken breasts
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 2 large onions, diced
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 large red bell pepper, sliced
  • 3 tablespoons Hungarian paprika
  • 2 teaspoons Kosher salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 can (14.5 ounces) diced tomatoes
  • 1/2 cup chicken broth
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 2 tablespoons fresh parsley, chopped
  • 2 apples, sliced for a fruit side
ALLERGENS: chicken, olive oil, garlic, bell pepper, tomatoes, chicken broth, sour cream, apples

Method

Step One

Start by heating your olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the boneless chicken breasts and sear them until they’re browned on both sides. Once done, remove the chicken from the skillet and set it aside on a plate.

Step Two

In the same skillet, add the diced onions, minced garlic, and sliced red bell pepper. Cook them until they’re soft and the onions turn translucent.

Step Three

Now, add the Hungarian paprika, Kosher salt, and black pepper to the skillet. Stir all the ingredients well to blend the aromatic paprika with the vegetables.

Step Four

Next, pour in the diced tomatoes along with their juice, and the chicken broth. Let the sauce simmer for a couple of minutes.

Step Five

After the sauce has simmered, add the seared chicken back into the skillet, coating it well with the sauce and veggies. Cover the skillet and reduce heat to low, allowing the chicken to cook thoroughly for about 25 minutes.

Step Six

In a small bowl, whisk together the sour cream and lemon juice. Once the chicken is cooked, spoon some of the sauce from the skillet into the sour cream mixture, mix well, and then add this mixture back into the skillet. Stir everything together until the sauce thickens.

Step Seven

Serve the Hungarian Paprika Chicken hot, garnished with fresh parsley. Pair with some sliced apples on the side for a light and refreshing contrast. Enjoy your meal!
