Exploring Araza: A Hidden Gem of the Tropics

Before moving to the recipe, let’s unearth the roots of its star ingredient – Araza. Originating from the depths of South American rainforests, Araza boasts a beautiful yellow pulpy fruit with a unique blend of sweet and sour notes. Due to its rich nutritional composition, Araza is finding its spotlight in the culinary world. Using Araza in an American classic cake recipe adds an exotic twist, embodying my signature Californian fusion cooking style.

Health Benefits and Pairing Suggestions for Araza Fruit Cake

Each slice of Araza Fruit Cake imparts a hefty dose of Vitamin C – a powerful antioxidant known to boost immunity and skin health. But the health benefits aren’t all it has to offer. With its aromatic sweet-tart flavor, Araza adds a whole new dimension to the humble fruit cake, making it an irresistible treat for all palates. Given its zesty character, the cake pairs beautifully with a glass of crisp white wine. ALLERGENS: Wheat, Gluten, Eggs, Milk

Method

Step One

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9-inch round cake pan and line the bottom with parchment paper.

Step Two

In a large bowl, combine 1.5 cups all-purpose flour, 1.5 teaspoons baking powder, 1/2 teaspoon baking soda, 1/4 teaspoon salt, and 1 cup sugar. Mix these ingredients until they are well blended.

Step Three

Add 1/2 cup butter which is at room temperature to the flour mixture. Using an electric mixer, beat the mixture on a medium speed until it is well combined.

Step Four

Add 2 large eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Stir in 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract and 1 cup araza puree.

Transfer the cake mixture to the prepared pan and smooth the top. Bake it in the oven for about 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center of the cake comes out clean. Allow the cake to cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then remove it from the pan and allow it to cool completely on a wire rack.
