There’s something incredibly comforting and indulgent about our recipe of the day, Baked Salmon with Tangelo Glaze. This delightful dish harnesses the robust flavors of the tangelo fruit to give your tastebuds a tantalizing tour de force. While my culinary escapades are strongly planted within classic French cuisine and deep Creole flavours, I have a fondness for recipes that also carry a nod to healthier choices. Baked Salmon with Tangelo Glaze seems to be a harmonious blend of all that, and that never fails to bring a smile to my face.

Baked Salmon with Tangelo Glaze

An Ode to The Tangelo

The tangelo, as intriguing as its name sounds, is a hybrid of the tangerine and grapefruit. Its unique tangy sweetness turns this recipe into a masterstroke. The zesty tangelo glaze gives the salmon a fresh burst of citrus flavor, while the honey adds a hint of caramel-like sweetness. It’s akin to a melody playing on your palate!

From the Majestic Salmon to the Humble Garlic

And then there’s the salmon – a fish revered for its rich flavor and mouthwatering texture. It’s also a wonderful source of Omega-3 fatty acids, which are great for heart health. The humble garlic, often understated, brings about an elegance in flavor, merging beautifully with the intense soy sauce and fragrantly fresh cilantro. All these ingredients collaborate to curate a symphony of taste that’s healthy and downright delicious.

The Power-Packed Meal

Along with being sumptuously flavourful, this meal is a nutritional powerhouse. You’re getting a good balance of lean protein from the salmon, whilst the tangelo provides a boost of vitamin C. The gorgeous glaze, made with honey, garlic, and soy sauce, adds layers of intense flavor without adding too much fat or calories.

I am reminded of dishes like Citrus Roasted Salmon or Slow-Roasted Citrus Salmon whenever I prepare the Baked Salmon with Tangelo Glaze. It pairs well with a crisp green salad for a lighter meal, or roasted vegetables for a more hearty dinner option.

I genuinely hope you’ll enjoy making and eating the Baked Salmon with Tangelo Glaze as much as I do. It’s a meal that’s both nourishing and decedent, bringing together the best elements of distinct culinary worlds. Bon Appétit!

What You’ll Need

  • 6 salmon fillets (6 oz each)
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 2 cups fresh tangelo juice
  • 2 tbs fresh tangelo zest
  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/4 cup chopped fresh cilantro
  • 2 tbs olive oil
ALLERGENS: fish, soy

Method

Step One

Begin by preheating your oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit. While the oven is warming up, season the salmon fillets with salt and black pepper.

Step Two

In a medium-sized saucepan, combine the fresh tangelo juice, tangelo zest, honey, soy sauce, and minced garlic. Cook over medium heat until the mixture reaches a thick glaze consistency. This should take approximately 15-20 minutes.

Step Three

Brush each seasoned salmon fillet with olive oil, then generously apply the tangelo glaze on top. Make sure to reserve some of the glaze for serving.

Step Four

Place the glazed salmon fillets on a greased baking pan. Bake the salmon in the preheated oven for about 12-15 minutes, or until the fillets flake easily with a fork.

Step Five

Once fully cooked, remove the salmon from the oven. Brush the fillets with the remaining glaze, then sprinkle chopped fresh cilantro on top to garnish before serving.
