Why I Love Greek Beets with Balsamic Glaze
Each bite of Beets with Balsamic Glaze offers a reminiscent flavor of a glistening Mediterranean morning. Sparkling with the zest of fresh parsley, the sharp indulgence of feta cheese, and the sweetly piquant underscore of balsamic vinegar, it’s a versatile side dish that can elevate a simple weekday dinner or hold its own at a festive dinner party.
Culinary Love Letter to Greece
This delightful Greek-inspired Beet recipe is, above all, a display of my love for the healthy and robust culinary traditions of Mediterranean cuisine. Its roots draw upon Mediterranean gusto for wholesome ingredients, while its presentation charmingly aligns with the Californian value for visual appeal and nutritional balance.
An Ode to Wholesome Ingredients
A glance at the ingredients screams simplicity, but the magic lies in their harmonious blending. Olive oil, balsamic vinegar, and dashes of sugar and pepper all contribute to a symphony of flavors. The highlight is, of course, the wholesome beets, nutritional powerhouses that bring this dinner table star to life.
This Beet salad, reminiscent of a similar beet-based dish by renowned chef Jamie Oliver, exemplifies the vibrancy and vitality of Greek culinary traditions. It encapsulates my aspiration to create dishes that not only satisfy the palate but also nourish the body- much as the rustic and soulful Greek cuisine does.
Paring the Beets with Balsamic Glaze
Just as a fine wine complements a well-prepared meal, Beets with Balsamic Glaze pairs beautifully with a variety of dishes. It enhances the savory goodness of grilled fish or chicken, and lends a bright and bold edge to a traditional Greek moussaka. When served with a chilled, crisp white wine from my California home, it takes on a gourmet elegance.
So whether you are sitting down for a casual dinner or entertaining an elite gathering, remember this recipe. Beets with Balsamic Glaze- a simple, satisfying dish fitting for all occasions.
What You’ll Need
- 6 medium beets
- 3 tablespoons olive oil
- 1/2 cup balsamic vinegar
- 1/4 cup white sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- Salt to taste
- 1/4 cup crumbled feta cheese
- 1/4 cup chopped fresh parsley
Method
Step One
Begin by preheating your oven to 400 degrees (F). Clean the beets thoroughly, remove their greens, and then peel them. Now, cut each beet into quarters.
Step Two
Next, arrange the prepped beets on a baking sheet and drizzle with olive oil. Ensure all beets are coated evenly. Sprinkle some salt onto the beets.
Step Three
Roast the beets in the preheated oven for approximately 45 to 60 minutes, or until tender. Take out from the oven and allow to cool.
Step Four
While the beets are cooling, prepare the glaze. In a small saucepan, combine balsamic vinegar, white sugar, and black pepper. Bring it to boil over medium heat, then reduce the heat to low and let it simmer until the mixture is reduced by half. This will take about 15 minutes. Once done, remove from heat.
Step Five
Place the cooled down roasted beets in a large bowl and drizzle them with the balsamic glaze. Toss well to make sure all beets are coated.
Step Six
Finally, season the beets with a little more salt, if needed, and sprinkle crumbled feta cheese and fresh chopped parsley over top before serving. These beets with balsamic glaze can be served warm, at room temperature, or chilled – according to your preference.
