In my adopted sunny valleys of California, the essence of seasonality, local flavours, and healthy living blend into every dish I dream up. This is especially true for today’s recipe, the delightful Brazilian Pepper and Tomato Salsa. The infusion of colours from bell peppers to ripened tomatoes and refreshing mangoes is as heart-warming to look at as it is beneficial for your body.

Brazilian Pepper and Tomato Salsa

Power Packed Nutrition, Bursting with Flavours

You might know already that I have a penchant for marrying health-conscious recipes with comfort of American classics. This recipe is a perfect example of that synergy. The rainbow palette of veggies is brimming with vitamins and the tropical sweetness of mangoes, coupled with the robust kick from jalapenos, brings not only a vibrant taste but also a serious dose of nutrition. If you are looking to boost your immune system with some vitamin C, or trying to increase your fiber intake for improved digestion, look no further than this exciting mix.

A Tropical Twist to The Traditional

I can’t help but draw parallels between this playfully tropical salsa and some classic American dishes, like our beloved salsa or a refreshing guacamole. The heartiness of these traditional dishes gets a vivacious lift from the inclusions of mangoes, the nuttiness of cilantro and the peppery undertones from the medley of bell peppers.

Not to mention how complementary this Brazilian Salsa is, it can light up any meal instantly. Pair it with some grilled chicken, use it to spice up your tacos or simply as a zesty dip with some tortilla chips. Each bite you take will transport you to the sunny beaches of Brazil, while you sit comfortably in your homes.

So, here’s to shaking things up a little, staying nutritious, and above all, keeping meals exciting with our Brazilian Pepper and Tomato Salsa. Enjoy!

What You’ll Need

  • 1 cup of finely chopped tomatoes
  • 1 finely chopped red bell pepper
  • 1 finely chopped yellow bell pepper
  • 1 finely chopped green bell pepper
  • 2 finely chopped mangoes
  • 1/2 cup of finely chopped red onion
  • 1/4 cup of chopped fresh cilantro
  • 2 chopped jalapeno peppers
  • 3 tablespoons of fresh lime juice
  • 1 tablespoon of grated lime zest
  • 1 tablespoon of olive oil
  • 1/4 teaspoon of ground black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon of salt
ALLERGENS: None

Method

Step One

Begin by preparing your ingredients. This will involve finely chopping the tomatoes, red bell pepper, yellow bell pepper, green bell pepper, mangoes, and red onion. Chop your fresh cilantro and jalapeno peppers as well.

Step Two

Grate enough lime to make one tablespoon of zest. Be careful not to grate too deeply into the lime; you want only the green part, not the bitter, white pith below. Set this aside for later.

Step Three

Squeeze enough fresh limes to make three tablespoons of juice. Fresh juice will always taste better than bottled, so try to use fresh limes if possible.

Step Four

In a large bowl, combine all of your chopped ingredients. This includes the tomatoes, bell peppers, mangoes, red onion, cilantro, and jalapeno peppers. Pour in the lime juice and olive oil, and add your lime zest.

Step Five

To finish, add the ground black pepper and salt to the bowl. Toss all ingredients until they are well mixed, ensuring the salt and pepper are evenly distributed.

Step Six

Let your salsa sit for at least 10 minutes before serving. This allows time for the flavours to meld together. Enjoy your Brazilian Pepper and Tomato Salsa as a fresh and fruity accompaniment to any main course!
