I truly adore the Cacao Almond Protein Balls recipe due to its immense flavorful depth and robust health benefits. Taking inspiration from my culinary journey that started in the heartland of Texas, I’ve always leaned towards hearty and wholesome dishes that speak to the soul as much as they do to the palate.

Cacao Almond Protein Balls

Inspired by similar energy ball recipes that I’ve come across online, such as this one and this one, the Cacao Almond Protein Balls pack a punch of nutritional goodness. The sweet, earthy tones of the raw almonds mesh seamlessly with the tangy, tropical notes of the Medjool dates. These energy balls, packed with protein and fiber, are a balanced snacking option that keeps you satiated and supports overall health.

Nutritional Powerhouses

As elegant as they are nutritional, each ingredient in this recipe brings a unique flavor and a wealth of nutrients. The incorporation of cacao, almonds, rolled oats and chia seeds not only amplify the taste of the balls but also infuse them with antioxidants, fiber, healthy fats, and proteins.

The cacao adds a depth of flavor and packs in antioxidants that contribute to heart health, while the almonds and rolled oats provide a healthy dose of fiber and protein. Additionally, the almond butter and flaxseeds, besides being tastefully complementary, add a hefty dose of Omega-3 fatty acids.

The Medjool dates offer natural sweetness and loads of vitamins and minerals. Finally, the protein powder, almond milk, and various seeds make these balls a protein powerhouse that support muscle recovery and repair.

Perfect Pairing

Pair the Cacao Almond Protein Balls with a cup of steaming green tea for a delightful mid-afternoon snack or with a glass of almond milk as a pre or post-workout energizer. They could even seamlessly fit as a dessert, partnered with a beautiful fruit salad or a bowl of Greek yogurt drizzled with honey.

In essence, these Cacao Almond Protein Balls, much like the Tex-Mex food of my heritage, merge simplicity and complexity, tradition and innovation. They are representative of food that nurtures, satiates and fuels our bodies, while tantalizing our taste buds with an orchestra of flavors. It’s one my most cherished recipes that I hope brings as much joy to you as it does to me.

What You’ll Need

  • 1 cup raw almonds
  • 1/2 cup rolled oats
  • 1/4 cup cacao powder
  • 1/4 cup protein powder
  • 1 cup pitted Medjool dates
  • 3 tablespoons almond butter
  • 2 tablespoons chia seeds
  • 2 tablespoons flaxseeds
  • 1/4 cup unsweetened almond milk
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • A pinch of sea salt
ALLERGENS: tree nuts (almonds), gluten (oats), seeds (chia seeds, flaxseeds)

Method

Step One

Start by soaking the pitted Medjool dates in hot water for about 10 to 15 minutes until they are softened. As the dates are soaking, measure out your raw almonds and place them into a food processor.

Step Two

Next, process the almonds on high until they are finely ground. Once ground, add in the rolled oats, cacao powder, protein powder, chia seeds, flaxseeds, cinnamon, and a pinch of sea salt, then process again until these ingredients are well combined.

Step Three

After the dates have softened, drain them and add them to the food processor. Also, add into the food processor, almond butter, vanilla extract, and the almond milk. Process all the ingredients until a sticky dough forms.

Step Four

Once the sticky dough has formed, it’s time to roll out the protein balls. Begin by using clean hands to take a portion of the dough and roll it into a ball. Continue to do this until all the dough has been used up.

Step Five

After you’ve rolled out all the protein balls, place them on a plate or tray covered with parchment paper. The protein balls will need to be refrigerated for at least 1 hour before they can be enjoyed. They can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks.

These Cacao Almond Protein Balls are perfect for a quick, healthy snack, or a post-workout boost! Enjoy.
