Fingered Citron Infused Vodka

From the Mountains to the Orchard

Although born in the cradle of the Rockies, my culinary journey has been brimming with intriguing flavor profiles gathered from across the globe. Fingered Citron Infused Vodka brings together the aromatic zest of citron with the clean taste of quality vodka. Distinct yet complementary profiles create a unique taste sensation akin to savoring a fresh citron under the summer sun, a direct contrast to my hearty mountain menus.

Nature’s punch of Health Benefits

Beyond the satisfying sensory experience this recipe offers, citron tickles the palate and promotes health. Citrus fruits like citron are packed with vitamins, particularly Vitamin C, plays a significant role in immune function and skin health. Needless to say, Fingered Citron Infused Vodka marries pleasure and wellbeing in a glass.

While this citrus-infused vodka shines on its own, it can seamlessly blend into various dishes and drinks, enhancing the overall culinary experience. Think chilled seafood platters. The zesty vodka drizzle could add an exciting twist, and would pair surprisingly well with delicate trout dishes.

Similarly, as a cocktail base, this infused vodka takes the tropics to your drink. It can replace the traditional vodka in a classic Russian Mule or interact wonderfully with the tangy tomato in a Bloody Mary.

What You’ll Need

  • 1 Fingered Citron
  • 24 oz Premium Vodka
  • 1 cup White sugar
  • 1 cup Water
ALLERGENS:

Method

Step One

Begin by preparing your fingered citron. Rinse it thoroughly and pat it dry. Next, carefully pare the outer pith (the yellow part of the skin) with a sharp knife or cheesegrater, being careful not to get any of the white pith. This white part is quite bitter and can ruin your vodka’s taste.

Step Two

Take a large glass jar that can comfortably hold 24 oz of vodka and your fingered citron. Place the pared fingered citron peels into the jar.

Step Three

Now it’s time to add the vodka. Pour it into the jar over the citron peels, ensuring that all the peels are submerged in the liquid. Close the jar and set it in a cool, dark place for at least two weeks to infuse. Shake it gently every 2 or 3 days to help blend the flavours.

Step Four

After the two-week infusion period, prepare a simple syrup. Combine your 1 cup of sugar and 1 cup of water in a small pot. Heat it over medium heat, stirring until the sugar completely dissolves. Let it cool.

Step Five

Strain the vodka infusion into a clean container, removing the citron peels. Once the simple syrup has cooled, slowly add it to the infused vodka, tasting along the way, until you reach your desired level of sweetness. Mix well.

Step Six

Once you’ve added enough simple syrup, pour the final product into a clean glass bottle. Store your fingered citron infused vodka in a cool, dark place for at least a week before consuming. The longer it sits, the more the flavors will meld together. Enjoy it straight up, on the rocks, or as a base for your favorite vodka cocktails.
