Standing at the intersection of Southern soul food and West African culinary tradition, I find joy in crafting dishes that harmonize both. One of these recipes beloved by everyone is the Fruit Salad with Lanzones. This dish not only paints a vibrant canvas of colors with its medley of fruits but also leaves you with a taste that will delight and surprise in equal measure.
Perfectly Balancing Taste and Health
What could be better than a recipe that’s as healthy as it is delicious? Our Fruit Salad with Lanzones beautifully combines the tang of lanzones, the crispness of apples, the tartness of strawberries, the juiciness of pineapple, and the mild sweetness of red grapes and blueberries. To enhance the flavors, we incorporate the spirited kick of lime and add freshness with a hint of fresh mint, and round out the palate with a touch of honey. This multitude of flavors dances on the tongue, providing a culinary experience that is delightful and satisfying.
Fruit salads hold a myriad of health benefits due to the high quantities of fruits involved. By introducing such an array of fruits to your diet, you’re enhancing your vitamin and mineral intake, boosting your immune system, and maintaining a healthy digestive tract. Besides, the hydration from the fruits, coupled with the vitamin C from the orange juice, might give your skin that glow you’ve always yearned for.
An All-Around Favorite for Any Gathering
Whether it’s a summer barbecue, a family gathering, or just an easy Sunday brunch at home, our Fruit Salad with Lanzones is ever the crowd-pleaser. Fruits and salads are admired across various cuisines globally, making this dish a welcoming presence on any food table.
Having similar roots to Coconut Fruit Salad, the inclusion of lanzones in ours gives it a unique tropical twist. The salad’s lightness and sweetness harmonize with hearty main dishes, especially with flavorful proteins like Smoky Rotisserie Chicken or Grilled Swordfish Steaks.
Be it at a feast or as an everyday delight, trust me when I say, you can make your days a little more flavorful, a bit more optimistic with this salad. The assortment of fruits in this recipe makes it an adaptable, happy-go-lucky kind of dish that effortlessly fits in anywhere, making any meal a bit more special. And in these times, isn’t that what we all need?
What You’ll Need
- 3 cups of lanzones, peeled and deseeded
- 2 apples, cored and diced
- 1 cup of red grapes, halved
- 1 cup of strawberries, halved
- 1 pineapple, peeled, cored and diced
- 1 cup of blueberries
- 1 orange, juiced
- 2 tablespoons of honey
- 1 tablespoon of fresh mint leaves, chopped
- 1 lime, zested and juiced
Method
Step One
Start by preparing all the fruits. Peel, deseed, and separate the lanzones into individual segments. Core and dice the apples. Halve the red grapes and strawberries. Peel, core, and dice the pineapple. Finally, wash the blueberries and set all the prepared fruits aside.
Step Two
Prepare the dressing. Start by juicing one orange, do this over a bowl to catch all the juice. To the same bowl, add the zest and juice of one lime. Now, add in the honey and the chopped fresh mint leaves. Stir well to combine all the ingredients thoroughly.
Step Three
Now, combine the fruits and the dressing. To a large bowl, add in the prepared fruits – the lanzones, apples, grapes, strawberries, pineapple, and blueberries. Pour over the prepared dressing and gently toss everything together to make sure all the fruits are well coated in the dressing.
Step Four
Allow the fruit salad to chill in the refrigerator for at least two hours before serving. This gives the fruits time to absorb the flavors of the dressing.
Step Five
This step is optional but recommended for extra flavor. Just before serving, garnish with a few extra mint leaves or any leftover fruit. Serve chilled and enjoy your Fruit Salad with Lanzones!
