Glazed Star Fruit and Pork Stir Fry

This enchanting entree, Glazed Star Fruit and Pork Stir Fry, whispers hints of a traditional Asian Stir Fry but sings with a completely unique note due to the star fruit- a rare touch of tropical radiance. The star fruit imparts a delightful sweet-tart flavor which complements beautifully the savory pork and rich sauces. Fans of Sweet and Sour Pork may find a new favorite in this tantalizing twist.

The Health Factor

The star of this dish, the star fruit, offers a host of health benefits. This low-calorie, high-fiber fruit is an excellent source of vitamin C and even contains antioxidant-rich flavonoids. Research suggests it may offer anti-inflammatory and anticancer properties and even aid in controlling cholesterol levels. Moreover, lean pork is a wonderful source of high-quality protein and essential vitamins and minerals. Every bite is a delightful, and nutritious, experience.

Let’s not forget the garlic and fresh ginger- both known for their medicinal properties. High in antioxidant and anti-inflammatory substances, they’re the unsung heroes of countless stir fry dishes.

The Perfect Pairing

While the Glazed Star Fruit and Pork Stir Fry stands unassumingly perfect on its own, it harmonizes charmingly with a bowl of jasmine rice- a classic companion to any stir fry meal. This recipe encapsulates what I love about food – surprising links between seemingly disparate ingredients, creating a manifestation that’s delightful, nutritional, and above all, delicious.

What You’ll Need

  • 1.5 pounds of lean pork, thinly sliced
  • 4 fresh star fruits, thinly sliced
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon fresh ginger, finely chopped
  • 1 red bell pepper, cut into thin strips
  • 1 green bell pepper, cut into thin strips
  • 1/2 cup of chicken broth
  • 1/4 cup of soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons of brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon of cornstarch
  • 2 tablespoons of water
  • 2 green onions, chopped
  • 1 teaspoon of sesame oil
ALLERGENS: soy

Method

Step One

Begin by prepping all your ingredients. Thinly slice 1.5 pounds of lean pork and 4 fresh star fruits. Mince 2 cloves of garlic and finely chop 1 tablespoon of fresh ginger. Cut 1 red bell pepper and 1 green bell pepper into thin strips. Lastly, chop 2 green onions.

Step Two

Heat up 2 tablespoons vegetable oil in a large wok or skillet over medium-high heat. Add the minced garlic and chopped ginger into the oil and cook for about 30 seconds, or until fragrant.

Step Three

Add the thinly sliced pork to the wok and stir-fry it until it is no longer pink. This should typically take about 5-7 minutes. Then, remove the pork from the wok and set it aside on a plate.

Step Four

Next, in the same wok, add the thinly sliced star fruit and the strips of red and green bell peppers. Stir-fry the fruits and vegetables for about 2 minutes.

Step Five

Pour the 1/2 cup of chicken broth into the wok. Cover the wok and let the broth simmer for about 5 minutes, or until the vegetables are tender.

Step Six

While the broth is simmering, in a separate bowl, mix together 1/4 cup of soy sauce, 2 tablespoons of brown sugar, and 1 tablespoon of cornstarch until smooth. Gradually stir in 2 tablespoons of water until the mixture is well combined.

Step Seven

Pour the soy sauce mixture into the wok with the vegetables and star fruit, then add the cooked pork back into the wok as well. Stir everything together until the sauce has thickened and the pork is well coated, which should take about 2-3 minutes.

Step Eight

Finally, sprinkle the stir-fry with the chopped green onions and drizzle 1 teaspoon of sesame oil over the top. Give the stir-fry one final stir to combine all the flavors together, then remove the wok from the heat.

Step Nine

Your Glazed Star Fruit and Pork Stir Fry is now ready to serve. Enjoy this delicious and healthy meal right away while it is still hot for the best flavor.
