There’s something magical about the Heart-Healthy Cacao Avocado Brownies recipe. They remind me of the comfort food my Irish grandparents would lovingly prepare, but they’ve also got a delicious modern twist. As a big fan of traditional, heartwarming meals myself, I appreciate that unusual mix of the classic and contemporary in food. More importantly, these brownies also match my ongoing promise to bring healthy, delectable dishes to the family table, which now includes my wife-to-be Laura and our adorable baby boy.
The Ingredients that Make a Difference
The beauty of Heart-Healthy Cacao Avocado Brownies is in its ingredients. It’s layered with healthy delights – avocados, cacao powder, almond flour, and coconut oil, only to name a few. With every bite, you’re not just treating your palate, you’re nourishing your body too! Cacao is rich in fiber, iron, and antioxidants; and avocado is a superfruit packed with heart-healthy fatty acids, dietary fiber, and essential nutrients.
What’s more, the use of alternative flours in the recipe becomes our secret weapon. Almond flour and coconut flour amazingly still give that familiar brownie texture while keeping the recipe gluten-free. Not to forget the natural sweeteners like pure maple syrup that let us enjoy sweetness guilt-free.
A Sweet Surprise to Traditional Irish Brownies
To blend these ingredients into a traditional Irish brownie recipe might seem unusual. However, I’m a firm believer that culinary creativity flourishes in the meeting place between innovation and tradition. The result is a dessert that resonates with the homeliness of my family’s heirloom recipes, and yet, surprises and delights with its unique profile of flavors. Don’t be fooled, though. These brownies are far from being the ordinary evening dessert; their richness is a great accompaniment to fancy cocktails for some late-night indulgence or midday munchies with a cup of Irish tea.
The inspiration for these brownies came from my constant search for health-forward recipes that still pack a comfort-food punch. Their similar flavor profile to traditional Carrot Cakes would make them a excellent addition to any dessert table, or as a healthier substitute.
So, next time you’re looking to bask in the sweetness of a heart-healthy dessert, do give these Cacao Avocado Brownies a try. I guarantee you’ll fall in love with their perfect balance of sweet, creamy, and nutty, just like my family and I have.
What You’ll Need
- 2 ripe avocados
- 1 cup pure cacao powder
- 1/2 cup almond flour
- 1/4 cup coconut flour
- 1/2 cup pure maple syrup
- 1/4 cup coconut oil, melted
- 3 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/4 teaspoon sea salt
- 1/2 cup dark chocolate chips
- 1/2 cup chopped walnuts
Method
Step One
Preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. While your oven is heating up, prepare a 9×9 inch baking pan by greasing it with a bit of coconut oil.
Step Two
Take the ripe avocados and remove their pits. Scoop out their flesh and put it in a food processor. Blend until you get a smooth consistency.
Step Three
Add to the food processor the cacao powder, almond flour, coconut flour, pure maple syrup, melted coconut oil, eggs, pure vanilla extract, baking soda, and sea salt. Pulse until all the ingredients are blended into a uniform mixture.
Step Four
Remove the blade from the food processor, and fold in the dark chocolate chips and chopped walnuts using a spatula.
Step Five
Transfer the batter into the prepared baking pan, and spread it out evenly using your spatula.
Step Six
Bake the brownies in the preheated oven for about 25 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
Step Seven
Allow the brownies to cool in the pan on a wire rack for about 15 minutes before cutting into squares and serving. Enjoy your Heart-Healthy Cacao Avocado Brownies!
