As I sit on the porch, cradling my Lime Margarita, I am taken back to the family gatherings of my childhood. Although Margaritas were not a staple in my Irish-American home, the emphasis on family, food, and laughter certainly was. I’ve always loved blending my New England roots with the warmth of Irish comfort food. However, on evenings when the clamour of Boston’s docklands seems a distant echo, a cold, zesty Lime Margarita allows me a momentary escape to sunnier climes.

The Healthy Touch

While traditional food will always be my first love, I am also aware of the shift towards healthier eating and drinking options. Lime, the star ingredient in this recipe, is a fantastic source of Vitamin C. It’s beneficial for your skin, helps in digestion, and can aid in weight loss too. So next time you’re holding this drink, know that you’re not just enjoying a refreshing cocktail, but also reaping some serious health benefits.

A Timeless Classic with a Twist

This Lime Margarita recipe is an ode to simplicity and tradition, combining the antiquity of a drink well-loved down the generations with a minimalistic approach that reaps maximum flavor. If you’ve had a taste for classics such as the Daiquiri or the Mojito, this Lime Margarita is a must try. It’s also extremely versatile, a delicious accompaniment to a myriad of dishes, be it the heat of Mexican cuisine, the delicacy of seafood, or platters of picnic foods under the summer sky.

My little boy isn’t old enough to appreciate the Lime Margarita right now, and Laura – well she prefers the non-alcoholic version. I love that there’s a flexibility to this drink that allows it to fit right in any context or company. To me, it’s another facet of what can make a meal an experience rather than just necessity; the stories shared, traditions passed, and memories made. Here’s to toasting to many more such moments with this vibrant Lime Margarita recipe!

What You’ll Need

  • 1 cup of lime juice, freshly squeezed
  • 3/4 cup of tequila
  • 1/4 cup of Triple Sec or Cointreau
  • 1/2 cup of granulated sugar
  • 6 cups of ice cubes
  • 6 lime slices, for garnish
  • 1/4 cup of kosher salt, for the rims of the glasses
ALLERGENS: None

Method

Step One

First, squeeze fresh limes until you have 1 cup of lime juice. Depending on their size, you may need around 8 to 10 limes. Set the lime juice aside.

Step Two

Next, prepare your margarita glasses. Wet the rim of each glass with a lime wedge, then dip the rim into a plate filled with kosher salt. This will create a deliciously salty rim for your margarita.

Step Three

In a blender, combine the freshly squeezed lime juice, 3/4 cup of tequila, 1/4 cup of Triple Sec or Cointreau, and 1/2 cup of granulated sugar. Blend these ingredients together until the sugar is completely dissolved.

Step Four

Add the 6 cups of ice cubes into the blender, then blend again until the ice is completely crushed and the mixture is frosty.

Step Five

Now, pour the margarita mixture into your prepared glasses. Garnish each glass with a slice of lime, then serve immediately while the drink is still cold. Enjoy your homemade Lime Margarita!
