Let’s talk about a creation that holds a special place in my heart – the delicious Mango Salsa. This is not just any recipe, but a reflection of my Cuban and Spanish roots, a melding of juicy tropical flavors with a characteristic zing. As a Miami dweller who has learned to find the balance between the vibrant beats of the Caribbean and the enchanting melodies of Spanish classics, I’ve come to embrace life’s vivacity and color in my culinary creations. And boy, does this Mango Salsa embody just that!
An Explosion of Flavours
Every bite of Mango Salsa is a dream-like experience – a burst of bold, refreshing flavors. The sweet flesh of ripe mangos mingles with the crisp tanginess of red bell peppers, hint of warm spice from finely chopped jalapeños, airiness of red onions, and the herbal freshness of cilantro. Our dear friends, freshly squeezed lime and orange juices, are the icing on the cake, bringing their citrus punch to the fiesta. Just a sprinkle of salt, and there you have it – a symphony of tropical goodness.
More than Just a Salsa
Most people tend to associate salsa with its tomato-based cousin, but I beg to differ. Through the lens of cultural fusion, our Mango Salsa stands as a standalone masterpiece, comparable to the Cuban classic Pollo a la Plancha or Spain’s beloved Paella. This salsa not just resembles these dishes in their melody of flavors, but also complements them perfectly in terms of taste and nutritional benefits.
A Healthy Choice
Aside from being incredibly delicious, let’s not forget the health benefits. The blend of mango, pepper, and lime offers a fantastic source of vitamins A and C, both essential for a healthy immune system. With its fiery jalapeños, this recipe is also a great metabolic booster. Plus, it’s a fun and yummy way to up your fruit and vegetable intake!
Mango Salsa’s versatility is yet another reason to love it. It’s delightful as a dip, refreshing on the side of grilled chicken or fish, and is even enjoyable straight from the bowl. In truth, there are countless ways to enjoy this salsa, just like there are countless dance styles in the tropics. So put on your dancing shoes, let’s sway to the rhythm of culinary fusion, one salsa scoop at a time.
What You’ll Need
- 3 ripe Mangos, peeled, pitted and finely diced
- 1 medium Red Bell Pepper, finely chopped
- 1/2 cup Red Onion, finely chopped
- 1/4 cup Fresh Cilantro leaves, finely chopped
- 1 Jalapeño, finely chopped
- 1/4 cup Fresh Lime Juice
- 1/4 cup Orange Juice
- 1/2 teaspoon Salt
Method
Step One
Start by peeling, pitting and finely dicing your ripe mangoes. This will be the main ingredient of your salsa, so make sure they are perfectly ripe.
Step Two
Move on to your red bell pepper. You’ll want to remove the core and seeds, then finely chop it. Do the same with your red onion, ensuring you have a fine chop to mix well with the other ingredients.
Step Three
Take your fresh cilantro leaves and chop them finely as well. Cilantro can have a strong taste, so if you aren’t a fan, you can adjust the amount to your liking.
Step Four
Carefully chop your jalapeño. Remember to use gloves or wash your hands immediately after handling to avoid any irritation from the spicy oils.
Step Five
In a large bowl, combine the diced mango, chopped bell pepper, onion, cilantro and jalapeño. Stir carefully to blend the ingredients together.
Step Six
Add in the freshly squeezed lime juice and orange juice. These will give your salsa a refreshing and tangy flavor that complements the sweetness of the mangoes.
Step Seven
Finally, sprinkle in the salt to enhance the flavors of your dish. Stir well until all the ingredients are mixed together.
Step Eight
Let your salsa sit for a few minutes to allow the flavors to meld together. Give it a final stir before serving and enjoy your homemade mango salsa!
