As a lover of food and tradition, I cherish the memories of my Italian grandparents’ kitchen, combined with my American upbringing in New Jersey. The recipe for Mangosteen and Pineapple Tango hails from a different part of the world, but reminds me that delicious flavors and family traditions are something we all share, no matter where we come from.

Mangosteen and Pineapple Tango

A Blend of Flavors and Traditions

The Mangosteen and Pineapple Tango is a wonderful blend of tropical fruits, hint of citrus, sweetness of honey, and the refreshing taste of mint. I find that this recipe can mesh well with a range of dishes, notably seafood or grilled chicken, much like a salsa or side salad would. It can also act as a refreshing palette cleanser in between courses. It reminds me a bit of the fresh fruit salads that are commonly found in Italian cuisine, although the addition of Greek yogurt gives it a creamy, smoothie-like consistency that’s unique.

Not Just Delicious, But Nutritious

Besides the unforgettable flavor combination, the Mangosteen and Pineapple Tango also offers a good deal of health benefits. Mangosteens and pineapples are both rich in Vitamin C which is essential for a strong immune system. Pineapples, in particular, contain bromelain which aids in digestion. The addition of honey not only adds a layer of natural sweetness to the dish but also hosts numerous health benefits such as being rich in antioxidants. Here’s more on the health benefits of honey if you’re interested.

As I sip on this refreshing, healthy concoction after a long hike or family gathering, I am truly reminded of why I love this recipe. The Mangosteen and Pineapple Tango is not just a drink or a side dish, it’s a celebration of diverse flavors, family traditions, and the healing power of nature, all in one glass. I hope you love it just as much as I do. Cheers to health and happiness!

What You’ll Need

  • 2 cups fresh mangosteen, peeled and pitted
  • 2 cups fresh pineapple, cored and cubed
  • 1 cup orange juice
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 1 tablespoon fresh lime juice
  • 1/2 cup mint leaves
  • 1 cup plain Greek yogurt
  • 6 slices of fresh pineapple for garnish
  • 6 sprigs of fresh mint for garnish
ALLERGENS: Pineapple, orange juice, honey, Greek yogurt

Method

Step One

Start by preparing the fruits. Peel and pit the mangosteens, making sure to get 2 cups worth. Then, core and cube your fresh pineapple until you have another 2 cups.

Step Two

In a blender, combine the prepared mangosteen and pineapple. Methodically blend the fruits on a mid-range setting until a chunky mixture has formed.

Step Three

Add in the orange juice, honey, fresh lime juice, and mint leaves to the blender. Blend all the ingredients at a high setting until a smooth consistency is achieved.

Step Four

Now, it’s time to add in the Greek yogurt. Add it into the blender and blend again on high until everything is well mixed and you’ve reached your desired consistency.

Step Five

Pour the smoothie into six separate glasses. Each glass should be nearly full, but leave a little bit of room at the top. After filling each glass, garnish each one with a fresh pineapple slice and a sprig of fresh mint.

Step Six
