As someone who grew up in Texas, where food traditions take you on a journey of vibrant Tex-Mex flavors, I fell in love with the art of putting a modern twist on traditional Southern recipes. I want to tell you about a recipe that is close to my heart, the Orange Basil Salmon, which brings together the robust tangy orange, aromatic basil, and rich salmon in a flavorful symphony.

Orange Basil Salmon

A Fusion of Flavors

With the Orange Basil Salmon, I effortlessly spin the classic appeal of my Texas roots into a fresh culinary creation. The dip of olive oil, the rich salmon fillets, and the zestful lift of orange perfectly portray the fusion of savory and zest that paints the truest picture of my Southern heritage. This dish echoes of similarities to the traditional Citrus-Roasted Salmon.

Health in Every Bite

The Orange Basil Salmon is not just about taste, it’s about widespread health benefits. Salmon, as we know, is one of the richest sources of Omega-3 fatty acids that boost brain and heart health. Mixing this up with the invigorating goodness of orange and honey, this dish is a powerhouse of Vitamin C, improving immunity, and overall well-being. The addition of garlic and ginger adds an extra layer of medicinal benefits, from aiding digestion to building a stronger gut.

This dish goes beyond being just a meal, it’s an experience layered with health and flavor. I often serve it alongside a warm green salad, whose freshness complements the rich salmon with balance and poise./p>

There’s no dish quite like Orange Basil Salmon. Biting into a piece sends delicious waves of succulent salmon, coupled with the zesty citrus rush and the unique spiced undertones of soy sauce and ginger. Topped off with the aromatic hint of fresh basil and livened up with the sweet contrast of honey, it’s a deeply satisfying, healthful culinary delight!

What You’ll Need

  • 6 pieces of fresh salmon fillets
  • 2 tablespoons of olive oil
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • 1 cup of fresh squeezed orange juice
  • Zest of 2 oranges
  • 1/4 cup of honey
  • 2 tablespoons of soy sauce
  • 3 cloves of garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon of freshly grated ginger
  • 1/2 cup of fresh basil leaves, chopped
  • 1 orange, sliced for garnish
  • Fresh basil leaves for garnish
ALLERGENS: Fish (salmon), Soy

Method

Step One

Preheat your oven to 400 degrees F (200 degrees C).

Step Two

While the oven is heating, brush your salmon fillets with olive oil on both sides, and season with salt and black pepper to taste.

Step Three

Place the seasoned salmon fillets on a baking tray and set aside.

Step Four

In a medium-sized saucepan over medium heat, add the freshly squeezed orange juice, zest of 2 oranges, honey, soy sauce, minced garlic, and grated ginger. Stir all these ingredients well until they’re well combined, and bring the mixture to a boil.

Step Five

Once the mixture is boiling, lower the heat to medium-low and let it simmer for about 10 minutes, or until the sauce has thickened slightly.

Step Six

Remove the saucepan from heat, and stir in the chopped basil leaves. Allow the mixture to cool for a few minutes.

Step Seven

Pour the orange-basil sauce over the seasoned salmon fillets, ensuring each piece is evenly coated.

Step Eight

Place the salmon in the preheated oven and bake for 12-15 minutes, or until the salmon is cooked through and flakes easily with a fork.

Step Nine

While the salmon is baking, slice an orange for garnish and set aside along with some fresh basil leaves.

Step Ten

Remove the baked salmon from the oven and garnish with the sliced orange and fresh basil leaves before serving. Enjoy your Orange Basil Salmon!
