Pairing the Passionfruit Sauce with Diverse Dishes
This Passionfruit Sauce for Seafood Dishes is as versatile as it is flavorful. It pairs beautifully with a myriad of seafood dishes, thereby adding a refreshing, fruit-based twist to traditional Southern-style seafood. For instance, when served alongside my classic Lowcountry shrimp boil, this sauce adds an unexpected tang that impeccably balances the rich and savory flavors of the dish. It’s also reminiscent of Eastern coastal flavors, similar to the sweet and tangy sauces you’d find adorning delicacies in New England.
What You’ll Need
- 1 cup fresh passionfruit pulp (about 6 passion fruits)
- 1/2 cup orange juice
- 1/4 cup lemon juice
- 1/4 cup lime juice
- 1/4 cup white sugar
- 2 tablespoons cornstarch
- 1/4 cup water
- Salt to taste
- 1 tablespoon unsalted butter
Method
Step One
Begin by cutting the passion fruits in half. Use a spoon to scoop out the pulp and seeds into a bowl. You should be able to get approximately 1 cup of pulp from about 6 passion fruits.
Step Two
In a saucepan over medium heat, combine the passion fruit pulp, orange juice, lemon juice, lime juice and sugar. Stir well until the sugar is completely dissolved.
Step Three
In a separate bowl, combine the cornstarch and water. Mix well to ensure the cornstarch is fully incorporated into the water.
Step Four
While stirring the passionfruit mixture, slowly pour in the cornstarch mixture. Continue to cook and stir until the sauce is thickened to your desired consistency.
Step Five
Add salt to taste, and then remove the saucepan from the heat. Stir in the unsalted butter until it’s fully melted and incorporated into the sauce.
Step Six
Allow the sauce to cool slightly before serving over your favorite seafood dishes. Enjoy!
