I couldn’t resist introducing y’all to a delightful fruit-based recipe entitled Plumcot and Cinnamon Jam. Now, don’t get me wrong; I value my Southern roots, with a pantry stocked full of biscuit fixings and a true knack for anything fried. The Art of Southern Jam Making

Now, the art of making jam is not foreign to any self-respecting Southern belle. My grandma, Maybelle, used to make jars of peach and strawberry jams from the fruit trees in her own backyard. However, this Plumcot and Cinnamon Jam carries a touch of the unexpected, much like my occasional detours from tried-and-true Southern fare to the world of coastal seafood.

Plumcots, a hybrid of plums and apricots, have an incredible flavor profile. Their sweet-tart depth provides the jam with an alluring base that pairs wonderfully with the warmth of cinnamon. This vibrant jam carries a certain health aspect too. Did you know that plumcots are high in antioxidants and loaded with Viatamin C? This makes them a sweet way to boost your immune system and battle free radicals.

Perfect Pairings for Plumcot and Cinnamon Jam

This jam is not just robust in flavor, but versatile, too! Consider enjoying it as a spread on warm toast or biscuits at breakfast time. Perhaps, couple it with cream cheese on a bagel for a classic pairing with a unique spin. Ever try jam with fried chicken? Yes, you heard me right! This plumcot and cinnamon gem could add a gourmet twist to your traditional Southern fried chicken meal.

For those who love the indulgence of baked goods, try incorporating this jam into a cupcake recipe. The surprise center of flavorful jam could take your baking to a whole new level. Or, for a more Eurasian touch, incorporate the jam into your blini spread!

When it comes to this Plumcot and Cinnamon Jam recipe, the possibilities for enjoyment are as vast as the coastline I love to surf. So, why not take a break from the conventional? You might find yourself, as I did, falling in love with the unexpected.

What You’ll Need

  • 3 cups of diced plumcots
  • 1 tablespoon of lemon juice
  • 2 cups of granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon of ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 package of powdered fruit pectin
ALLERGENS:

Method

Step One

Firstly, prepare your plumcots. Rinse them thoroughly under running water, then dice them into small pieces until you have around 3 cups. Do not worry about removing the skin; it will soften and break down during the cooking process.

Step Two

Place the diced plumcots in a large saucepan. Add the tablespoon of lemon juice, which will help to preserve the color of the fruit. Stir to combine.

Step Three

Combine the 2 cups of granulated sugar with the teaspoon of ground cinnamon. Mix thoroughly until no clumps of cinnamon remain, then pour the mixture into the saucepan.

Step Four

Stir the fruit, lemon juice, and sugar together on a medium heat. Continue to stir until the sugar has completely dissolved and the mixture starts to bubble.

Step Five

Once the mixture is bubbling, stir in the powdered fruit pectin. This will help your jam to set. Reduce the heat and let the jam simmer for around 15 minutes, stirring occasionally to prevent it from burning.

Step Six

After 15 minutes, remove the saucepan from the heat. Allow the jam to cool for a few minutes, then transfer it into clean, sterile jars. Seal the jars tightly, then store them in a cool, dark place. Your Plumcot and Cinnamon Jam is now ready to be enjoyed!
