Sapodilla-Fruit-Salad

Southern Comfort Meets International Flavors

Born in a place where Tex-Mex flavors were part of my everyday life, I am always enthralled by recipes that bring out the boldness and vitality of the ingredients. Sapodilla, with its sweet and malty flavor, is such an extraordinary fruit, not very common in traditional Texan cuisine, but beautifully blending with it.

This Sapodilla Fruit Salad is not just satisfying to the taste buds, it’s also a powerhouse of nutrients. Sapodilla is a great source of dietary fiber and loaded with antioxidants, vitamins A and C, and minerals essential for optimum health. The variety of fruits in this salad makes it a veritable feast of vitamins and minerals, while the sweetness from honey overrides the need for added sugars.

A Dish for All Occasions

What I love about this recipe is its unmatched flexibility. Fruit salad is a popular all-around dish, perfect for a nutritious breakfast, a refreshing snack, or even an offbeat dessert after a hearty meal. Bring it along for picnics, serve it at brunch, or simply enjoy it on a lazy Sunday afternoon.

This sweet and tangy bowl of nature’s candy is also a great pairing with traditional Southern dishes. Think grilled meats, cornbread, or any barbecued delights that are part of my Texan heritage – this fruit salad provides a refreshing counterbalance that absolutely sings on your palate.

So here it is, the Sapodilla Fruit Salad, a dish that embodies my passion for cuisine that is fresh, healthy, and every bit delicious, giving a nod to my Texan roots, but with a dash of novel international flavor. Can’t wait for you all to try it and enjoy the explosion of flavors! And remember, let the fruits be the star of this delectable dish while adding your personal touch with your chosen fruits or dressings.

Happy cooking and Bon Appetit!

What You’ll Need

  • 3 large sapodilla fruits
  • 1 large passion fruit
  • 2 large bananas
  • 2 large kiwis
  • 1 cup of sliced strawberries
  • 1 cup of blueberries
  • 1/2 cup of freshly squeezed orange juice
  • 2 tablespoons of honey
  • 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
  • Fresh mint leaves for garnish
ALLERGENS: Kiwi, strawberries, honey

Method

Step One

First, you need to prepare the fruit. Peel and chop the sapodilla fruits, bananas, and kiwis into bite-sized pieces. Cut the passion fruit in half and scoop out the insides. Add all the fruits into a large salad bowl.

Step Two

Next, add the sliced strawberries and blueberries to the salad bowl.

Step Three

In a separate bowl, whisk together the freshly squeezed orange juice, honey, and vanilla extract. This will become your dressing for the salad.

Step Four

Now, pour the dressing over your fruit salad. Gently toss the fruit salad until all the fruit is covered with the dressing.

Step Five

Let the salad sit for a few minutes for the flavors to meld together. It will taste even better after the fruits have absorbed some of the dressing.

Step Six

When you’re ready to serve, garnish the fruit salad with fresh mint leaves. This not only makes the salad look more attractive, but the mint also adds a refreshing taste that complements the sweetness of the fruits and the tangy dressing.

Step Seven

Enjoy your homemade Sapodilla Fruit Salad! It’s a perfect, healthy, and refreshing dessert for a hot day, or a light meal for any time of the day. You can store any leftovers in the fridge in an airtight container for up to three days.
