Let me take you on a flavorful journey through the land of fusion cuisine with one of my favorite recipes, the Sapote and Pineapple Salsa. This isn’t just your ordinary salsa – it’s a mix of tropical flavors and heated spices that can transport you to the beaches of California and the bustling streets of Gujarat in one bite.

Sapote and Pineapple Salsa

The Unique Blend of Flavors

The Sapote, a fruit native to Mexico, Central America, and the Caribbean, has a creamy texture and a mild, sweet taste, which when paired with the tanginess of fresh California pineapples creates an exciting contrast for your taste buds. When you top it off with the kick of red onions and jalapeno peppers, the refreshing cilantro, and the zest of fresh lime juice, you’ve got yourself a vibrant fusion of flavors.

Why it Resonates with Me

This salsa quintessentially defines the core of my cooking philosophy- the amalgamation of my Gujarati roots and my Californian upbringing. Every scoop of this salsa is reminiscent of the traditional Gujarati fruit chaat, a tasty fruit salad spiced with black pepper and salt.

Moreover, preparing this salsa takes me back to the days spent back in California, enjoying barbecues by the beach with my husband Faisal and our sons, where a refreshing bowl of Pineapple salsa was a consistent guest.

A Healthful Treat

This Sapote and Pineapple salsa isn’t just delicious, but also packed with numerous health benefits. Sapote is known to be high in vitamin C, which boosts immunity, while Pineapple has been credited with aiding digestion and reducing inflammation.

The addition of red onions and jalapeno peppers add a low-calorie kick of flavor, while also offering antioxidants and capsaicin, respectively. Capsaicin, found in jalapeno peppers, is known for its metabolism-boosting properties.

The Perfect Palette

This salsa effortlessly complements numerous dishes like crispy tortilla chips or grilled fish tacos. I’d also suggest you try this vibrant salsa with my Grilled chicken wrap, the sweet and tangy flavors pair perfectly with the savory chicken and fresh veggies.

So unveil your inner gourmet guru, grab these ingredients, and prepare this exotic Sapote and Pineapple Salsa. This is undoubtedly a recipe you’ll want to revisit time and again!

What You’ll Need

  • 1 cup of Sapote, peeled and diced
  • 2 cups of fresh Pineapple, diced
  • 1/2 cup of Red Onion, finely diced
  • 1 Jalapeno Pepper, finely chopped
  • 1/4 cup of fresh Cilantro, chopped
  • 1/4 cup of fresh Lime Juice
  • 1/2 teaspoon of Salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon of Black Pepper
ALLERGENS: Pineapple

Method

Step One

Begin by preparing your ingredients. Peel and dice the Sapote until you have roughly 1 cup. Next, dice fresh pineapple until you have approximately 2 cups. Finely dice half a cup of red onion, and chop 1 Jalapeno pepper. Chop 1/4 cup of fresh cilantro.

Step Two

In a large bowl, combine the diced Sapote, Pineapple and Red Onion. Add the chopped Jalapeño, ensuring that you’ve removed the seeds if you prefer a milder salsa.

Step Three

Next, add in the chopped fresh cilantro to the bowl.

Step Four

Pour in the fresh lime juice, and sprinkle in the salt and black pepper. Stir well until all ingredients are evenly combined and coated in the lime juice and seasonings.

Step Five

Let the salsa rest for a few minutes to allow the flavors to meld together. For the best results, cover the salsa and leave it to chill in the refrigerator for about an hour before serving.
