Star Fruit and Pear Juice

The Journey of Flavours

One of the reasons why I adore this Star Fruit and Pear Juice recipe is the journey of flavors it takes my palate on. Each sip begins with the tart, citrusy notes of star fruit, which is then beautifully balanced by the sweet, subtle flavors of ripe pear. It’s interesting how the unrefined edge of the star fruit complements the sophistication of the pear. It’s like a beautiful dance of flavors that truly reflects the fusion of my Indian-American roots.

But it’s not all about the flavor. This fruit juice is also a treasure trove of essential vitamins. Rich in vitamin C and antioxidants, star fruit boosts the immune system, while pears are high in fiber and have anti-inflammatory properties. I’ve always believed in mindful eating, focusing on the health benefits associated with every dish I prepare, and this juice is no exception.

Perfect Pairings

Another aspect I love about this recipe is its versatility. This juice pairs well with a variety of dishes, its fresh and invigorating flavor making it an excellent choice to accompany hearty breakfasts or as a cooling drink with spicy meals. For a heartwarming brunch, sip it alongside a goat cheese and spinach frittata or as a refreshing break amidst a spread of fiery Paneer Tikka Pizzas.

Whether you’re enjoying it on a scorching summer afternoon or using it as a flavorful base for a vibrant cocktail at a dinner party, the Star Fruit and Pear Juice stands out in its elegance and taste. This recipe, much like my life, is a beautiful blend of tradition and innovation, culture, and creativity.

What You’ll Need

  • 3 cups of ripe star fruit, cleaned and chopped
  • 2 ripe pears, cored and sliced
  • 1 cup of white sugar
  • 6 cups of water
  • 1/2 cup of fresh lime juice
  • Ice cubes for serving
ALLERGENS: The recipe does not contain any known common allergens. However, allergies vary greatly and are specific to individuals.

Method

Step One

Start by preparing the fruits. Thoroughly clean your star fruit and chop them into big chunks. Next, core and slice your ripe pears.

Step Two

In a large saucepan, combine your chopped star fruit, sliced pears, and sugar. Then add 6 cups of water.

Step Three

Bring the mixture to a boil over medium-high heat. Once it starts boiling, reduce the heat and let it simmer until the star fruit and pears are thoroughly cooked and become soft. It usually takes about 20-30 minutes.

Step Four

After the fruits are cooked and softened, puree the mixture using a blender or food processor until smooth. After pureeing, strain the juice through a fine-mesh sieve or cheesecloth to remove any leftover fruit pulp or seeds.

Step Five

While your juice is still warm, stir in 1/2 cup of fresh lime juice. The warmth of the juice will help to fully incorporate the lime juice. Alternatively, if you prefer a cooler drink, you can wait for the juice to cool before adding the lime juice.

Step Six

Chill the juice thoroughly in the fridge. before serving, stir well and pour into glasses over ice cubes for a refreshing drink.
