A Fruity Twist to Classics

Growing up in the diverse gastronomical landscape of Montana, I have always been enamored by the simple elegance of incorporating fresh, local ingredients into my cooking. This love has led me to create a fruit-based recipe that I hold very dear to my heart: White Sapote and Strawberry Salad. It’s a refreshing and delicious concoction that seamlessly blends the creaminess of Sapote, the sweetness of strawberries, the tanginess of lemon, and the subtly of honey and mint.

White Sapote and Strawberry Salad

Flavor, Nutrition, and more…

What I love about this White Sapote and Strawberry Salad is the beautiful interplay of flavors that transport you to a summer’s day, regardless of the time of year. But the merit of this dish goes beyond its delectable taste. Sapote is a wonderful source of dietary fiber and vitamins A and C, which makes it great for digestive and immune health. It’s also a source of essential minerals such as potassium, magnesium and calcium. Here’s a link to read more about the health benefits of white sapote. Strawberries, on the other hand, pack in a powerful antioxidant punch and are heart-friendly. The honey adds natural sweetness and is known for its antibacterial properties, while the lemon juice aids in digestion and adds that perfect tang to balance the flavors.

If you’re someone who enjoys the sweet and savory combination in salads, this recipe would work well with grilled chicken dishes or can be served alongside a venison steak at a summer barbecue. It also pairs nicely with creamy pastas or can just be had as a wholesome dessert on its own.

A Recipe that Resonates

To me, every recipe I create carries a piece of my experiences and beliefs. And this White Sapote and Strawberry Salad is no different. It’s simple yet sumptuous, nourishing yet light, and most importantly, it reflects my love for combining straightforward, wholesome ingredients into something extraordinary. Just like how the serene landscapes of Montana taught me to appreciate the balance in nature, this recipe allows the individual ingredients to shine, and yet forms a perfect harmony. I hope that you enjoy making it as much as I do, and that it brings a slice of sunny Montana to your dining table. Here are some more recipes you can try with white sapote.

What You’ll Need

  • 3 ripe White Sapote
  • 2 cups fresh Strawberries
  • 1 tablespoon Lemon Juice
  • 2 tablespoons Honey
  • 1/4 cup chopped fresh Mint Leaves
  • 6 sprigs fresh Mint Leaves, for garnish
  • Almond flakes, for garnish (optional)
ALLERGENS: Strawberries, Almond flakes

Method

Step One

Start by picking up your ripe White Sapotes. Cut them in half and scoop out the flesh, discard the seeds. Cut the flesh into cubes and transfer it to a large bowl.

Step Two

Next, take your fresh strawberries. Rinse them under cold water and pat them dry. Hull the strawberries and cut them into halves or quarters, depending upon their size, and add them to the bowl with the White Sapote.

Step Three

Add 1 tablespoon of lemon juice to the bowl. The lemon juice will preserve the color of the fruits and add a refreshing tang to the salad.

Step Four

Drizzle 2 tablespoons of honey over the fruit. The honey will add a sweet touch to your salad while balancing the tartness from the lemon juice.

Step Five

Now, chop a 1/4 cup of fresh mint leaves and sprinkle them over the fruits. Mint leaves will give your salad a refreshing and aromatic touch.

Step Six

Gently mix everything together until the fruit is evenly coated with the honey and lemon juice and the mint leaves are well distributed.

Step Seven

Serve the salad in individual bowls or on a large platter. Garnish each serving with a sprig of fresh mint and, if desired, a sprinkle of almond flakes. The mint sprig will add an extra touch of freshness and the almond flakes will give a pleasant crunch.

Step Eight

Enjoy your White Sapote and Strawberry Salad fresh. It can also be stored in the refrigerator to be served chilled as a refreshing summer dessert.
