There’s nothing quite like the harmonious blend of sweet and savory that you find in this Tangerine Glazed Ham. Growing up in the vast open spaces of Montana, my culinary journey began amidst flavors that were as robust as the land itself. While my usual repertoire includes hearty fare, this particular recipe stands out because of the sheer simplicity and elegance it brings to the table. It’s a dish that hits all the right notes – sweet, tangy, and deeply satisfying.

Tangerine Glazed Ham

The Perfect Balance

What makes the Tangerine Glazed Ham so special? It’s all about balance. The fresh tangerine juice melds perfectly with the brown sugar and honey, creating a glaze that is both luscious and light. The spices – cinnamon, cloves, and ginger – add just the right amount of warmth, making each bite a delightful symphony of flavors. This savory ham, with its sticky, fruity glaze, is a true testament to how contrasting flavors can come together to create something exceptional.

Health Benefits

This recipe isn’t just about taste; it’s also packed with health benefits. Tangerine juice is rich in vitamin C, which is excellent for your immune system. The honey and brown sugar add a natural sweetness without the need for artificial sweeteners, while the spices offer their own set of benefits. Cinnamon is known for its anti-inflammatory properties, cloves have antiseptic qualities, and ginger aids in digestion. Not only will your palate be pleased, but your body will thank you too.

One of the reasons this particular recipe resonates with me is that it pairs wonderfully with a variety of side dishes. Whether you choose to serve it with a simple roasted root vegetable medley or a more elaborate sweet potato casserole, the Tangerine Glazed Ham is sure to shine. If you’re looking for something similar yet different, you might also enjoy trying a apple cider-brined turkey, which shares that delightful combination of sweet and savory.

Foods that tell a story have always been close to my heart, and this ham recipe is no exception. Its flavors remind me of festive gatherings and cherished family moments. I hope that when you prepare and taste this dish, it brings as much joy to your table as it does to mine.

What You’ll Need

  • 1 fully cooked bone-in ham (about 5-6 pounds)
  • 1 cup tangerine juice (freshly squeezed)
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 2 tablespoons Dijon mustard
  • 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 6-8 tangerine slices (for garnish)
ALLERGENS: None

Method

Step One

Preheat your oven to 325°F (163°C). Place the fully cooked bone-in ham in a large roasting pan, flat side down.

Step Two

In a medium saucepan, combine the tangerine juice, brown sugar, honey, Dijon mustard, apple cider vinegar, ground cinnamon, ground cloves, and ground ginger. Stir the mixture over medium heat until the sugar has dissolved and the glaze is smooth.

Step Three

Brush about half of the glaze over the ham, making sure to cover it evenly. Reserve the remaining glaze for later.

Step Four

Cover the roasting pan with aluminum foil and place it in the preheated oven. Bake the ham for approximately 1.5 to 2 hours, or until it is heated through, basting occasionally with the pan juices.

Step Five

Remove the foil from the ham. Increase the oven temperature to 375°F (190°C). Brush the ham with the remaining glaze and return it to the oven. Continue baking for another 15-20 minutes, or until the glaze is caramelized and sticky.

Step Six

Remove the ham from the oven and let it rest for about 10 minutes before slicing. Garnish with fresh tangerine slices. Serve and enjoy!
